The United States has already lost two wars to enemy forces that made extensive use of tunnels. In Vietnam, they tried using everything from bulldozers to B-52s to disrupt enemy tunnel networks, and to no avail. In Afghanistan the Taliban used a combination of ancient irrigation tunnels and natural caves to move around, and to hide. Maybe Israel can become the first country to develop a counter strategy. Right now, it is likely that Hamas has supply tunnels that reach well inside of Egypt, so although the people on the surface in Gaza are short of food and water, Hamas is protected by 40 meters of earth and probably is resupplied with everything they need.
