A combination of dense fog and smoke from at least three wildfires burning in Louisiana caused a miles-long car pile-up on I-55 near New Orleans, according to officials. NBC News’ Priscilla Thompson reports.

No, the fog didn't cause it. People driving too fast for conditions caused it.
It is not complex. Only drive as fast as you can stop, if something were stopped on the road ahead of you. Be it a blind corner, or rain, or snow, or "superfog", or dust, etc. And factor in road condition to that. If the roads are icy then that of course reduces stopping distance, a lot.
I personally get off the road ASAP in low visibility conditions, because most drivers just keep blasting down the road the same as if visibility were clear. So, no matter if I'm driving it safely, I don't trust most everyone else on the road.
Come on … let's hear ya' all criticize the driving skills of these individuals and offer your prayers … instead of Occupying the Department Of Transportation The fact that this happens every year … three or four times per year … and you just accept it shows what pathetic sheep the sheeple of the US are. No, the fog did not cause the pileup. Irresponsible drivers caused it.
lol. There's no such thing as "superfog". It's just fog. Which is a common occurence near bodies of water in the early morning. Also you can't just blame all this on the fog. People cause accidents. There was certainly one or more people who were driving unsafely to cause this. You can also blame society if you consider that our society is built in such a way that everyone is expected to drive just to get anywhere when by human nature, over half of them can't or won't drive safely.
Limited visibility does not mean speeding up! I hope everyone is okay.
Drove a tractor trailer off and on from 1970 t0 late 1999.
There were two things that would make me shut down, one was ice the other fog.
The caliber of truck drivers was in steady decline after 1980 and is much, much worse today.
Wait until some dashcam videos start surfacing and you're going to see 18 wheelers and 4 wheelers alike speeding into zero visibility.
Whenever we would get the Tule Fog near the Delta River in San Joaquin County, it was whiteout. You could not see a thing! We immediately returned home. There is nothing more precious than your family/ WHY are all those people OUT IN IT?? They knew damned well there were fires in Louisiana- add the effects of fog, AND smoke, you are just asking for trouble! Stay home- stay alive!!!
