A family is suing Panera after their daughter died from drinking a large charged lemonade that contains more caffeine than a Red Bull and Monster energy drink combined. Sarah Katz, a 21-year-old-student, had a heart condition that caused her to avoid energy drinks.

I’m sue McDonald’s for me being a fatty
I hope Panera wins.
No one forced her to drink caffine, additionally how can it be proven leagally that the lemonade was the only source of caffein or the direct cause of death. Did she eat a cookie too? cholocate has caffine. To put the blame on 1 drink 1 company and 1 source for the entire time period is not reasonable.
I’m sensitive to caffeine and love lemonade so much that I take picture of all kinds of news lemonades during my travels. This might be the first time I even heard of a caffeinated lemonade and don’t think most people associate the 2 either. Hard Lemonade (alcohol), yes but not this. Based on some comments, some have been served the wrong lemonade. I understand this girl knew there was caffeine but it seems it was clearly stated how much. Sad.
If it were labeled as they said the family already lost the case. Sounds like they already knew she was caffeine sensitive. I wonder if her mother was with her and why was nothing mentioned it’s really sad 😢
It was her choice buying it knowing her own condition. Crazy
I have close ties to people that have or had heart issues and I still don't find fault in Panera for this. A lot of worry and anxiety goes into making sure these people pull through, heal, and develop properly and she walked past all of that plus signs in-store and online to grab the BIGGEST DRINK WITHTHE MOST CAFFIENE. What's wild is people don't even consider her choice is the sole issue here.
I wouldn't drink that crap.
There is a sign telling me not to do it.
Several.
There are people that drink almost a pot and a half of strong dark a day.
They see the sign and go right to it.
They'll drink that crap.
My condolences, but I would raise my hand to be excused from jury duty on this.
SERIOUSLY??????? she shouldn't have drank it at all how stupid
Their food portion size is absurdly tiny. Complete ripoff.
Panera absolutely should be sued. I’m a bit caffeine sensitive and I got one of these after work one day … I usually drink fast so I felt VERY strange and sick. I didn’t realize until days later what I drank
I've never had any of those drinks, it's absurd!
She knew. She should've never drank anything except water. Especially if you know you will die. How stupid was she.
There are standard drinks at Starbucks with 4x the amount caffeine as a Redbull. Would they have gotten sued too?
Buyer beware
Why the heck is it caffeine in a darn lemonade??!!! Imagine not knowing and giving your kids this lemonade. Its a bad idea!
Im sorry for the family's loss but come on. I go to panera all the time and its literally always advertised that it has caffeine. Sorry but that was a bad choice she made. Knowing she had a condition and all.
That's the kind of drink that creates heart disease even if you didn't have one. No one's heart should be beating that fast plus combined with sugar which is poison.
Sugar is POISON.
Adults, young generation, kids need to be aware.
Sugar is a fake ingredient. It's Poison
I don't get it. Panera didn't accidentally give her the caffeinated version. They didn't mislabel the drink. Was the girl unaware of her condition? Was she unaware of the caffeine content, or just how sensitive she was? That's very sad. Seems like playing with fire to go for a huge, somewhat caffeinated drink, if you have any idea of the potential consequences. Lawsuits happen so regularly, as common practice, it doesn't even matter who's 'at fault'.
It's never irresponsible for the any food producers to even make something that has that much caffine in it. I never understood why the FDA never stepped in to regulate the amount of caffeine knowing it does have dangerous side effects. I tell my relative with heart condition all the time not to mess with caffinated drinks even at Starbucks because you just know for sure.
Also, when a company claim it's natural… Be extra careful, it's their code word for we aren't responsible for the problem you are having because it's natural and it's hard to be sure the exact amount.
Such a sad experience. Who placed that order? The family is at fault, accept it and move forward learning to #beAware #takenothing4Granted
