Senate Republicans took to the floor today to criticize Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville’s ongoing hold on military officer confirmations. More than 350 promotions have been stalled for the past seven months due to Tuberville’s opposition to a Department of Defense policy related to abortion. NBC News’ Ryan Nobles explains.

There’s plenty of people that make the military their whole career—some join when they are eighteen and then stay in the military for decades. I’m sure some of them feel like now they have to make a choice—stay in the military or start a family. If your military base is in one of the states where it has become much more dangerous to become pregnant because if something goes wrong with your pregnancy you may not be given the medical care you or your spouse need to live or to carry a pregnancy in the future, you may feel that you can have either a military career or a family but not both.
