Obviously don't know the internal details, but as an outside observer it just looks like a mistake. ChatGPT is an outrageous success and Sam Altman has been a great poster-boy. His interviews both in and out of mainstream media have shown him to be a great level-headed communicator and champion for the brand – not an easy replacement for sure.

Sam Altman to OpenAI is like Sam Bankman-Fried to FTX. Altman did and still wants to proceed with something unethical within the development and utilization of AI programs at OpenAI while covered it up and lied to the board-members, hence the firing. Microsoft picked him up is a mistake, unless they're welcoming this unethical use of AI in their future plans.
The People have the power. They always have had it.
