I first remember falling in love with both President Jimmy and First Lady Rosalyn Carter when I was 10 years old and watching the Inauguration in 1976 on TV. They were clearly cut from a different cloth than every President and First Lady before and since. They were both people of deep faith in the Christian ethos of do onto others as you would have done onto you. The Carters were the opposite of the Right-Wing Christian Evangelicals who were even then trying to bring back Jim Crow, stop women’s rights, and embracing Jerry Falwell, Jim Baker, Pat Robertson, and of course Prosperity Doctrine that elected Ronald Reagan the father of modern MAGAism.
It should be noted that EVERY OTHER President & First Lady (Republican or Democrat) has always used their post-White House years to do little more than building their way to billionaire status by virtue signalling to their tribes and building global connections that include the most vile and despotic leadership around the world from Jeffrey Epstein and the Koch brothers to China and the Saudis.
Not the Carters though, NEVER!
Maybe that is why the Clintons and Obamas bonded with Bush Sr. and Jr. rather than the Carters. Watch any gathering of “The Presidents Club” and see that President Carter was always left to the side of the stage and marginalized while there was an exuberant bromance going on with all the other Presidents.
The ironic part is that President Carter loved them ALL regardless of this because he was just a better man and a true Christian.
But none of that would make any difference to the PROGRESSIVE illiberal Democrats, the Carters would be utterly unelectable today. Because their lifetime of commitment to humanity and selflessness would make everyone from Oprah to Megan and Harry look like the virtue signalling profiteers that they are – and that all their fans and followers aspire to replicate on social media every second of every day.
Until a few years ago, well into their nineties, this pair of soulmates actually worked SEVEN DAYS A WEEK to help the world with real projects, diplomacy, outreach, and care that is even more essential now than when they left the White House 43 years ago.
I am an atheist, and believe that all religions are man made, however, I cannot help but love, admire, and cherish, the Carters. They are two people who actually lived the humane and egalitarian principles that they preached and prayed.
The world is a much lesser place with the passing of First Lady Rosalyn Carter. The loveliness of her presence filled every part of her life and those that she touched. A photo of the Carters has been in our family home since the day that Ronald and Nancy brought their brand of Jim Crow back to the White House.
Thank you Mrs. Carter, and I wish you find the Heaven that you so richly deserve.
