Target announced that it was shutting down select stores, citing retail crime and the safety of customers and workers. A CNBC investigation found that some of the closing stores had fewer crime incidents than other Target stores left open nearby. Target called the finding “fundamentally flawed.” NBC News’ Christine Romans reports.

Any chance that many of these stores are marginal and just hanging on due to changing shopping habits and incompetent management, and that retail theft is pushing them over the edge? More fair and balanced reporting from mainstream media.

What items in Target are valuable enough to justify the risk of hitting Target with a large organized theft? All of the videos show small stores (jewelry and luxury item stores) getting hit. Is Target really getting hit? How about K-Mart or WalMart?

What would Target have to gain by lying about low-performing stores vs stores with high theft. They basically fall into a similar category. Low-performing stores are losing money by sitting inventory and high overhead and the stores with high theft are losing money by lost inventory. They not winning either way.. Target corp is capitalistic primary function is to make money not be noble!

I think the behind-the scenes culprit is that online shopping has taken such a huge bite out of in-person retail that many are shuttering stores to compete and are using the retail theft as a face-saving excuse.

As a target worker such lies … We have been getting our hours cut since April of 2023 … Has nothing to do with retail crime … No one is shopping in the stores , Trucks are getting More longer but hours aren’t …
Assets Protection also is only scheduled like 4 hours a day most days , that’s why theft happens because hours aren’t given to anyone in the store all across the board…

Target also was lieing about price cuts during the holidays they put up fake prices when they never cut the price of the product…
Most days we are told to do other peoples jobs in the store, some days ill find stocking (Main job title) then being asked to do cash registers, then being asked to do online orders for pickup and drive up , then were asked to help unload the truck in the back , then were asked to push carts outside sometimes whenever there isn’t a cart attendant, then were asked to do Starbucks as well … it’s terrible all across all targets across the USA .. oh and our backrooms are filled with stuff just falling off nothing fits anymore …
If police don't show up and take a report than the crime isn't counted in official statistics. Target and other retailers know exactly how much they're losing and which locations are losing the most.
When the neighborhood burns down your store don't expect it to reopen!
