People were running away from Charles Bridge because that area was in a line of sight from the roof of that university and at the end the shooter was on top of that roof shooting a long range gun with mounted optics. Clearing Charles Bridge was a preventive action, it is like a quarter mile away form the place.

When I heard the news I thought the student is an American exchange student.
No security check? After all he was a passed out student invited for a lecture and having an already criminal record. May all comfort the breaved families. The young man had a terrible emotional problem inside of him which was not dealt with. Very pathetic for him, his family and all hurt .

"An American contagion" is a very good way to put it. I moved here to Prague from America in 2017 and it is one of the safest cities in the world in terms of violent crime. There has never been a mass shooting like this here before ever. There is no part of the city that isn't safe at any time day or night. This simply doesn't happen here so when I started hearing all the sirens today I knew something unusual was happening. I was about two blocks away. I'm so friggin angry! This isn't supposed to happen here! Part of the reason I moved here was to get away from all of this violence.
It can happen anywhere, sadly. People get shot all the time in Canada. I get provincial alerts of suspects with firearms. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

After about 15 minutes of research I found that he was inspired by a similar shooting in Russia in fact (not America), by a 14 year old girl named Alina Afaskinova. She shot and killed 5 people including herself on Dec 7,2023.
The shooter in Prague is also named David Kozak. He wrote on his telegram channel prior to the shooting his intentions. So there you go. Some actual reporting from some guy with a iPhone on the other side of the world.
Columbine HS shooting happened 20 miles from where I lived and I was distraught by that event as a father of a young kid back then. Unfortunately not anymore as it has become all too frequent these days
