The new year is going to bring a new paycheck for millions of Americans, with about half of all states either raising the minimum wage on Jan. 1 or at some point in the year. NBC News’ Sam Brock has more on what workers and businesses are saying.

  1. Raising the minimum wage does nothing the businesses will increase product prices when that happens the new minimum wage will be difficult to live by

  2. No surprise raggedy Alabama and most of the south isn’t on the list

  3. working a minimum wage and a mother of six?!!?😵😵 I could never comprehend how one can handle life so irrationally. 🧠🧠🔥🔥

  4. They just bumped up the minimum wage here in my to $16 hr ..what people don’t understand is that if you want your wage higher you need to bring value with that on an hourly basis and the business needs to be able to profit after what they pay you in wage and benefits as well as their expenses. People don’t have businesses for the sake of owning a business, it’s capitalism 101. We need to understand how to bring value in what we do. Not ask for more and offer no more value. Also not all employment NEEDS to be paid in a check, some can be paid in gaining experience and education. We are paid what what we are worth ..if not, then evaluate what you need to do to either A) increase your value or B) find a company who sees your value as higher than you’re being valued. Simple…heightening the minimum wage simply creates these idi.ots who have extremely basic skill sets to expect to get paid more for them. Learn a trade! This is 💯 why trade schools have seen a 300% increase over college enrollment.

  5. Minimum wage raise? Cant even get my order right at McDonald's

  6. Minimum wage is part of America just as taxes is a part of life.
Everyone knows to become educated or motivated to get a better job. Common sense is a better education then a student's loan education debt. Don't settle for your missy wages, make your own raises with your own hustle, second job, trading, services, etc.
The American Dream is long gone, but I lived it.😍😍😍😍😍
Living in my $6,000 paid home worth now over $140,000 and till paying taxes.🤑🤑🤑🤐🤐
    ❤❤USA❤❤

  7. I'll be making $21.68/hr when I start work again next monday, but I cut my spending drastically by not eating out and buying food from Dollar Tree and Food4Less.

  8. Tell that woman to get a husband all they gonna do is raise the prices or everything

  9. 🙄 Yeah, and then guess what’s gunna happen next; the landlords in those states will increase rent, insurances will go up, the cost of general life necessities will go up, and the cost of gas and transit will go up. So for everyone who got a raise it will just even out, and for everyone who DOESN’T get raises, like gig workers, people on disability and fixed incomes, their cost of living will go up, and may even become unaffordable for some people.

In order for raises to mean anything, they need to put a cap on the cost of basic living. They must pass a law that says housing, food, transportation, medical, and communication, need to be capped at a percentage that allows people making minimum wage to put away savings and have some quality of life. They can no longer be allowed to create an economy where the cost of living demands every last dollar from minimum wage workers, while we pretend that’s enough to live on.
If they can’t put away savings for emergencies, if they can’t afford time off and recreation (which can be crucial for mental stability and a healthy family life), and if they can’t afford to be single parents or live without a roommate, then that’s not “enough to live on”. That’s not life. It’s only enough to barely survive.

So stop demanding raises and start demanding a fix to the root of the problem; business greed.

  10. Try getting a better job 😮

  11. Pizza Hut already laid off all their delivery drivers. Expect a lot of layoffs and franchise closings. What happens to the price of food when the migrant field workers get $20/hr? California has decided to give them free healthcare too. Biden's last claim to fame is the jobs numbers, this will undo him completely.

  12. President joe is against the minimum wage only Sanders wants more minimum wages

  13. Congratulations…you played yourself….

  14. Not good for mom and pop but these BILLION DOLLAR CORPS, GET 'EM.

  15. When i worked many years ago I made $1.00 an hour and thought I was rich. Just think about this, the more money you make the more taxes you wil pay. Also a lot of you will lose your job because the place you work for will go out of business because they will have to raise the price of whatever they sell. People will have to pay say $2.50 for that hamburger you just cooked instead of $2.00. This is why so many companies get stuff from foreign countries because it's cheaper. Have you ever noticed where things you buy come from? Read the label, you'll see that that product was made in China or some where like that. Why because labor there is cheaper. God bless.

  16. A mother of 6 needs 50/hr and a babysitter/nanny

  17. For those who’s against minimum wage increases what do you have to say to companies that raised prices drastically in states where minimum wage is still $7.25 hour? Because at that point is greed from the company

  18. That lady is gonna be out of a job soon. Lol

  19. The cost of living is just going to increase. Everything else is only going to increase in price. Rent, food, gas, etc.. Americans already got a wage increase in 2022. In Virginia it went from 9.50 in 2021 to 11.00 in 2022. But then the cost of living increased as well. My rent increased by almost $200. Insurance, Food, so on, everything hiked. So I don't see where this is going to help. It's going to create another chain reaction. Companies will pay right at the minimum wage, workers won't get the raises they deserve as often as they should, if any, due to companies being forced to pay more for goods & product, as well as company related insurance. I think it's going to do more damage than good. What really needs to happen is there needs to be laws & limitations on price increases for distributors, insurance companies, rental properties, etc. This would help a lot for those who think they make more so we can charge more. Then things would be as they should be. At this rate of circle running we'll never get a head & we'll always be in survival mode.

  20. Except for Iowa. Govenor pockets our extra money and says inflation doesn’t affect Iowans.

  21. I definitely do better here In Illinois than I did in Mississippi. Even the prices here, are similar like they are in Mississippi. But they pay their workers a lot less! And also last year, I bought my first home 😊 so I’m doing better than I’ve ever done!

  22. Aoc lost her barmaid job due to the minimum wage increase in NYC and her employer couldn't afford to pay her that wage. Aoc is pushing for higher minimum wage, not too smart for someone who didn't want Amazon to bring jobs to her district in NYC

  23. Perfect ! More money for less work ! BRICS will crush the fake US economy which is running on alternative fuel fumes.

  24. You still will be broke your rent will go up even higher. Along with everything else

  25. It may be about time …. But companies will hire less people ..& have current employees work harder …, LOL 🤣😆 …. just my opinion….

  26. No problems to come that's what that means less jobs more business closings

  27. Wow minimum wage is going up that means more poverty that means more job loss wow great

  28. I don't know how small businesses can stay in business with this nonsense.

  29. Minimum wage should be like $5.00 an hour.

  30. Then I hope everyone is ready for prices to go up.

  31. and the layoff have already begun

  32. Every time business owners can't afford their employees there is an uproar, I can not afford a maid or butler so I do not have one. If you can not afford owning a business then you don't have a business.

  33. It’s hilarious that these idiots can’t grasp that the raise in price of everything else more than offsets the wage increase.
    Keep digging your hole deeper.

  34. We could increase the minimum wage to $1 million it won’t change anything because every time we get a pay increase prices of products go up

  35. You mean tax hikes. Raising the minimum wage is just a way of raising taxes, without saying you’re raising taxes.

  36. I picture an inchworm. Wages are raised, and then the price of everything goes up. History repeats.
