Presidential hopeful Nikki Haley did not cite slavery as a cause of the American Civil War on Wednesday night when a town hall attendee asked her what she thought led to the bloody conflict.
As she faced criticism for refusing to mention slavery, Haley addressed her comments at the start of a town hall in New Hampshire on Thursday.
Haley corrected her remarks saying, “Of course, the Civil War was about slavery. We know that. That’s unquestioned. Always the case. We know the Civil War was about slavery.”

Nikki Haley tried to backpedal right through that question. If she had it kept it real, I could’ve given her my vote. She knows you know your grandmother knows your aunt knows your cousin knows and the baby knows the United States Civil War was about slavery. It was about the south maintaining wealth on the backs of African-Americans Whom had no rights whatsoever. Even natural human rights. She makes a good point. The war was about the economy. However, it was also to maintain the antebellum.

"In 2023 its astonishing to me" our own president wants to rewrite history to say the civil was was fought to free the slaves. It wasnt. It was fought over economics and political influence. At that time westward expansion was promising, and there were two opposing ideals regarding what happens in new westward territories. The south wanted to expand slavery to the west while the north wanted the west to be exlusively white labor. The south feared if the west were to be white labor only that slavery would eventually be lost entirely for them. What actually started the civil war was the fact that abraham lincoln was elected without a single southern electoral vote, leaving southern states to feel they had lost all political influence in the ccountry, then decided to leave the union and create their own. Upon the souths secession the war was fought.
So in all reality, because history is not fair or comforting nor should it be anything but the truth regardless of what that truth is… the cause of the civil war was fought over economics and political influence. The war was never fought to free the slaves in the south, that was a fantastic consequence of the war. Im sorry your history teacher in public school has failed you, but this is why we need more books and less instagram.
Please keep in mind the emancipation proclemation wasnt even signed until 1863 3 years into the civil war. Logically if the civil war was fought to free the slaves dont you think they should have started with freeing the slaves????

When I went to college, I took a US History course that was taught by a very progressive professor. She argued the US civil war came about due to the difference in technology in labor between the north and south, not because of slavery. Specifically, the invention of the cotton gin sparked the Civil War.
The south suceeded for their right to.. SLAVERY. Im a right/conservative leaning guy but even i know that.
However. She wanted to protect herself from southerner retaliation (because a lot of them are her supporters) because theres still a lot of them who believe the civil war was caused by "state rights", and to that i say.. A STATE'S RIGHT TO WHAT?! SLAVERY?! Do not claim yourself to be religious if you cannot accept that fact. Slavery is not a right.
