Voters in Illinois and Massachusetts are filing motions to have former President Trump removed from their 2024 primary ballots. This comes as the Supreme Court is expected to review a ruling in Colorado banning Trump from the state’s ballot.

Massachusetts and Illinois are blue states so it doesn't really matter if Trump is off the ballot or not as anyone voting for Trump in either of these states has a snowballs chance in Phoenix of Trump wimning either state. Massachusetts or Illinois do not determine wheter someone becomes president. If Trump is out in Florida or Pennsylvania his chances of becoming president are non existent.

I live in Illinois…this is the first I've heard of this. Trump has not been charged or convicted of inciting an insurrection. How can this happen? Let the voters decide at the ballot box!
I do not recall Trump being found guilty of insurrection. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment prohibits a former oath-taking "officer of the U.S." who "engaged in insurrection" from "holding any office, civil or military, under the U.S." But it says nothing about running for office or appearing on a ballot. Many Confederates after Civil War worked for US government.
Supreme court has no obligation to rule on any of these panicky primary ballot issues. The real rub is if he wins the primaries and gains the party nomination. He can then be disqualified by a federal court ruling. SCOTUS will quickly uphold the ruling by not taking the case. By Nov. There will be no ballots nationwide with Trump's name pre-printed on them. The real danger for the GOP is that they are drifting into irrelevant territory as a party that can't ever police their own.
The reality is a schism and exodus of rank and file republicans to other parties leaving a broken, dysfunctional extremist far right party in place, incapable of governing, or vetting candidates.
The MAGA base alone is not enough to govern or hold office. It has already happened….but GOP leadership is not WOKE enough to smell the coffee. They are just hearing the MAGA minority screaming. Democrats will take over, on the 5-7% of the silent Republicans who will vote Dem. The rest will stay home. D.C. will be cleared of MAGAs and Trump. The tide will turn and maybe even bipartisanship governing will finally return.
