The House report shows woeful ignorance, or perhaps they just want you to know Trump made a lot of money from "foreign entities," because they figure you will just go with what it says and not dig any further. Trump's BUSINESSES made money. They always have. The purpose of a business is to make money. Trump did not take political kickbacks. According to information available to committee investigators, China made the largest total payments — $5.5 million — to Trump’s private businesses. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), one of China’s biggest state-owned banks, was among Trump Tower’s largest office tenants during the Trump presidency. The report notes that during Trump’s first year in the White House, several Chinese banks — including ICBC — came under scrutiny for financial ties to North Korea, causing the administration to weigh sanctions against them. The average monthly rent a business pays to rent office space in Trump Tower is over $37,000. Yes, per month. No one is forcing them to rent there. They want the panache and the status of an impressive address. Donald Trump is a builder. He builds things. And then he rents them out. There is nothing immoral or questionable about this.

Excuse me, but the story doesn't say that Trump accepted $7.8 million dollars from foreign governments, it says his businesses received these payments, probably rent for using various properties in the portfolio. I understand that Trump's son was managing the business while Trump was President. The plain fact of the matter is that most of the employees of the federal government receive such payments as they all hold part interest in companies that receive payments from foreign governments. For example, many federal employees have stock in Boeing. Boeing receives payments from many foreign sources including governments. The federal employees profit from these payments. So where is the story here? Even ABC News employees receive these payments on a regular basis in their 401K plans by owning interests in companies that do business for foreign governments.

At best this is a sign of idiocy or "control issues". All Trump had to do was assign someone else as the sole trustee or owner for all his assets and businesses. He would yield exactly the same financial gains while avoiding legal issues around conflicts of interest. LBJ, for example, made sure his wife owned all of his radio stations for exactly this reason. It's not exactly rocket science. The same is true for Trump's legal woes around classified documents – if he just returned the documents he would have avoided any legal issues, his stubbornness in holding on to the documents is what landed him in legal hot water. Honestly I feel pretty lucky as a democrat that Trump so so incompetent – at least as a politician…
