Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was hospitalized for complications from a surgical procedure to treat prostate cancer, according to a statement from Walter Reed Medical Center. Defense officials say he hid his illness from top Pentagon officials and the White House says President Biden wasn’t made aware until today. NBC News’ Courtney Kube reports.

He didn't tell anyone about his medical condition, which is his choice because medical records are CONFIDENTIAL – isn't that what HIPPA is for ?? I don't know man, I would blow a fuse and be embarrassed if my medical business was blasted all over the news/media – I'm also sure that ^^ this violates HIPPA, but I hope he has a speedy recovery!

I understand this. We all know what happens and results when men have to be treated for PC. Being in his position, he didn't want to be looked at differently as if he was weak. And, if he hadn't had complications, it was a one day procedure during the holidays we would never have known about. So I can see not making notifications as of December 22 with the initial one day procedure. That makes sense. But once he had to go back to the hospital on January 1, full disclosures of the General being in the hospital should have taken place immediately. Being that he was incapacitated at that point, I think someone on his staff was being overly deferential and is the source in why communications unacceptably broke down. Sad situation and due to the nature of what is obviously a life threatening sepsis infection, given the rigorous nature of his duties and this severe and incapacitating infection that has developed, I do believe that General Austin will need to step aside now and focus on regaining his health. I pray for a speedy and full recovery, for he and his family, loved ones and many friends around the world. God bless General, all is well in Jesus' mighty name 🙏🏽

Give me a break. For four years Trump, the president, kept his health issues from everyone. Biden's administration is a well-oiled machine. This was a dry spot of oil. At no point was there an emergency. For most of last year Tuberville held our military hostage and most of the media rarely even mentioned it. Want to get outraged try getting outraged about the slow coup by Trump in the Congress of the Repubs. There is where you need to focus.

People react differently to this kind of news. Some tell everybody. Some don’t want to tell anyone. However, what I find so sad is that he didn’t feel there was anyone in his chain of command that he could tell. That’s someone who is seriously alone in their workplace. He should have told someone, but I feel bad that he didn’t have a single person he felt safe to tell. If I had a coworker who told me they needed a TURP and the office busy body came asking, I’d tell them no clue, or to mind their business. I am hoping he did tell people who needed to know, and they just respected his privacy.

No one knew even Biden. Austin is the defense secretary for crying out loud. What if there had been a war here in the United States? He could have died during surgery or the procedure. Unbelievable. It’s not like Austin works at McDonald’s.
And yet they first said it was a result of a previous, “elective” surgery. “Do better in communication?” It couldn’t have been handled any worse.
It's "personal" so it's cancerous – sorry. A 24/7 job is hard for older guys! Biden is only 60% (at the best) working, & others are receiving salaries (with our tax dollars) doing nothing.
