I think it's very possible that Lloyd Austin did inform Joe Biden that he was in the hospital but Biden didn't want to return to the White House from St. Croix so Austin will take the fall for him. This is how things work at the top. One thing that is on Austin, why would he schedule elective surgery while his backup replacement (Kathleen Hicks) is on vacation in Puerto Rico?
