  1. The other problem with the tipping in USA is the servers expect a tip whether the give good service or not. They have forgotten that a tip is for good service, the better the service the better the tip it is not automatic. If I get lousy service i will give no tip. If I get excellent service i'll give 20 or even 25%. So servers pick your game and don't expect a tip, some people just can't afford it

  2. in America and Canada, if they paid workers a wage they would allow them to support themselves it would change. When a restaurant adds it automatically it not only goes to the server but the cooks, dishwashers, bartenders, and management. They are stealing from the server who gave you great service was courteous and helpful all with a smile even after putting up with rude customers half the day. They are paid minimum wage often working slit shifts, being sent home without compensation if it is not busy. In Europe and Aust. they pay a wage that can be lived on (barely) give enough hours in week to sustain them.

  3. As a cashier/barista I rather not you tipping me than tipping but just only goes to the federal government thru taxes from your check.

  4. I tip as I please, always have and always will. It is not my responsibility to make up servers wages with tips when their employers are money greedy. Can't afford to eat out, costs too much. Tip jars have sprung up everywhere, inside liquor and convenience stores. Not. Todays generation sucks, the "guilt trip generation" laying it on to everyone but themselves. Guilt trips go right off my shoulders and are ignored. Good luck to them.

  5. Starbucks looking for tips for giving you a drink thru the window is b.s.
I never tip there. Overpriced, ice filled drinks and you want a tip for mixing ice, iced tea mix and water??? NO!!

  6. nope no tips ever. go out of your way to do something extra Not part of your duties not job description

  7. Another problem: Can you trust a food or beverage place to not tamper or contaminate your next order because you did not tip last time? I think not.

I’m staying home. Cheaper and less stress.

  8. I use instacart because i am unable to drive, the ripping before anything is done is my beiggest issue with it

  9. I don't get tipped for doing my job. I do my job better than most of my coworkers.

  10. Italy and Europe is not the model for amazing service.

  11. It’s the whole, I’m expected to tip before the service has even been rendered. I order a burger at the fast food place and they want the tip before I get the burger. No more.

  12. "we should be tipping in the service industry"….. NO YOU SHOULD NOT BE TIPPING IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY – MAKE EMPLOYERS PAY A FAIR WAGE AND REDUCED PROFITS. CUSTOMERS ARE NOT AN "EXTRA BANK ACCOUNT" you can just take from. **Our patronage is what keeps you employed, dumbass**.

  13. Screw tipping! It’s a disgusting American custom. Pay workers properly so that people aren't reliant on tips!

  14. I tip just about everyone very well… I got the extra to spare and know most of these jobs blow.

  15. This is because there is a wage class for "service". Get rid of it!!!

  16. I was raised on tips , i guess it made me generous tipper, but tip jars on the counters of self serve restaurants = NOPE !

  17. We eat out less partly because of the expected tip amounts and food prices during Bidenomics. We worked awful hard and sometimes had to wait a month to be paid. We were in construction and sometimes the customer would buy us a meal or give us something to drink.

  18. I worked as a waitress ( the only one from 8pm til whenever day shift decided to show up..innwmer city FULL SERVUCE NOT FAST FOOD..BACK IN 1967 …EVERYTHING WAS MANUAL….SORRY TODAY WE HAVE SERVERS BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE HAS TO TIP A MIN.OF 15% …FOR CRAPPY SERVICE.. ECT..NO…NO ONE SHOULD BE TOLD THEY HAVE TO LEAVE A BIG TIP…MANY WORK MIN WAGE AND CAN'T AFFORD TO DO THAT …I MAY LEAVE A TIP BUT NEVER A % OF BILL…SORRY BUT THE MAJORITY OF WAITRESS AND WAITERS DON'T GIVE GREAT SERVICE…ESP WHEN THEY SIT YOU NEXT TO PEOPLE WHO INTRUDE IN YOUR SPACE ECT.

  19. Yup, I've been saying for last year that tipping has gotten out of hand.

  20. americans confuse capitalism with democracies

  21. I pay tips with cash and only if I get good service. I will not be forced into paying a tip.

  22. There's a pizza place here in Reno, NV where the register defaults to a 35% tip on a very expensive pizza with no dine-in option. We changed it to 0% and have never been back.

  23. Most service folks in Europe get a wage, it's fine with them, tip or not, they don't care. Maybe if we paid our workers better then they would not have to rely on tips.

  24. I just want a law that states that prices listed on anything are flat rate. I want the tax, tip, fees, out the door, no BS price.

  25. Business ask for a trip prior to odering food.

  26. When I lived in and traveled Europe, most countries had the ‘tip’ surcharge automatically put on (and, the 15% was printed on the menu). The wait staff positions in Europe were not fill in positions between high school and Uni. It is a profession. Tips are automatically on the bill, no choice. However, I never saw bad attitudes, or rude treatment, or any show of second rate service. That was their profession, and proud of it! But, here, even with tipping…you can get some really entitled servers. I had a friend who had been a server for years. Four of us went to dinner together. My friend pulled out 20 . $1 bills, put them on the table. She told the waitress this was her tip. For every ‘screw-up’ she would lose a dollar. The other three of us were aghast! Waitress forgot a water, and boom, my friend jerked a dollar off the pile and my friend said VERY DRAMATICALLY, “That’s one”. The waitress was a real sweetie, and tried her best. At the end of our meal my female friend stopped the waitress and told her she had done a perfect job especially with a rude customer. She not only got the full $20, but quite a bit more especially when our bill total was only $15 for all of us. We went back there many times, and always requested the sweet waitress. That was fun!

  27. You, get your own things and, they’ll ask for a tip?

    Yeah funny.

  28. Start making your own coffee .

  29. The shame for not tipping on TO-GO ORDERS is something I will NEVER feel and is absolutely RIDICULOUS!! I paid for the food already what is the tip for??

  30. You know people whine about tipping, but they never realize most waiter/waitresses and service workers don’t even make minimum wage. If you look at the federal labor website an employer is not obligated to pay a service employee minimum wage because their tips are supposed to make up the difference. So, service workers count on their tips to survive.

  31. I was recently on a river cruise in Europe and tipping was just about forced. They told you what amounts everyone should be tipped. Outrageous!

  32. In italy we appreciate the tip because is excent from taxes… from our paycheck the gov takes 40% of it so is a lot of help when you tip! But is always up to the client how much they want to tip or not!

  33. You don't tip in Europe because being a server is considered a career and they are paid salaries. In the USA the servers the waiters and waitresses are paid minimum wage hourly and their salary is dependent on the tips 2:50

  34. I lived in Germany for 8 years and tipping is not expected or desired. People are paid very well and they take tipping as an offense.

The issue here is how people are paid their salaries, especially in service industries in the US. Much to be desired…

  35. We rarely go out now largely because of tipping. Prices are high an a tip ruins the meal. We’re down to once or twice a month at most. This holiday season we skipped it for 3 months.

  36. I remember when coffee was 10 cents per 6 ounce cup. Now it’s a sugar filled 32 ounce complicated piece of art. And we wonder why we’re gaining weight.
