U.S. court rules Madrid museum can keep painting stolen by Nazis



The 9th U.S circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a Madrid museum does not have to return a painting stolen by Nazis to the family of the original owner. The painting, owned by a Jewish woman, was stolen nearly a century ago.

  4. The painting were stolen from the Germans through hyperinflation. The question is, who owned the paintings before WW1?

  6. he's stunned not to get the painting returned (big money) while for 75 years people lose their families' lands. Is this a double standard?

    Would these families be spending thousands of dollars and years of their lives to get back a painting if it was only worth $100.00?

  13. Man, at the very least the museum could pay the family back for it, even if they still want to keep the painting.

In the very week an international court is arguing with Israel about its right to continue their search for 136 hostages a US court tells a family that their stolen artwork can not be given back. It would seem when it comes to Jewish lives or Jewish art, the world is not really interested in protecting them.

  20. The case needs to be in the Hague or a international court. Wrong jurisdiction and the California court was CORRECT.
