Two observable characteristics about that bus striking that fire hydrant with the first being that even though the hydrant was completely removed from the supply line, there wasn't the obligatory geyser which seems to indicate that city officials in charge of such things know better than to charge the system when these weather conditions exist just in case what happened here, happens. Then too, having the exact right gauge bolts holding that hydrant on to the supply line being designed to snap instead of having the supply line itself be damaged is just really, really smart and it shows, if I'm correct, that these people running things in Philadelphia have been to more than one rodeo, as the old saying goes.
As a contractor that has pretty much been there, done that for a lot of years, you just have to say, "Job well done", you folks in charge there in Philadelphia!
