This is a much worse problem than many seem to realize. China’s huge changes over the last 40 years set the stage for an epic implosion. China’s demographics problem is similar to Baby Boom in the US. There is an enormous ‘bubble’ of aging Chinese from pre ‘one child’ about to pass into their less-productive years, and not nearly enough people are being born to prop them up financially. The system has promised its people so much- constantly growing infrastructure, huge government programs, and a way of life that requires far more resources – but built it predicated on wealth created by younger generations. It’s much worse than just trying to backpedal to undo ‘one child’ – the general impression of many 996ers is that child-rearing is inherently too stressful/uncool/too expensive. As soon as the system begins to stagnate, unrest will follow, growing worse each year as aging populations don’t get what’s promised. It always works itself out over time – the old people will die, the burden will ease – but an unstable China is a massive global risk.
The more people you have, the less resources there are.
This news only wants to make Westerners happy for a while, they will disappoint again when they find out this is a fake news
My birth country S. Korea, I believe, has the lowest birth rate right now. And I say wonderful! Women no longer listen to all the pressures to have kids and I applaud them. Have kids if you want them, not out of obligation. Countries can even guarantee clean environment for the unborn, yet greed always overpowers logic I guess.

Our birth rate is 2.0 (completely balanced).
