Punxsutawney Phil will emerge in front of thousands of spectators Friday morning at Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, part of the annual Groundhog Day tradition celebrated in the U.S. and Canada.
While Punxsutawney Phil may be arguably the most famous groundhog around, he is not the only critter making a weather forecast today. There’s also Buckeye Chuck in Ohio, General Beauregard Lee in Georgia and Staten Island Chuck in New York, who all emerged from burrows Friday morning to predict either the continuing winter or coming spring.

I watched this and I was hyped for the early spring, and went to verify it with a more official source, and I am very disappointed. According to, like, everywhere else, spring still begins on March 19th.
I am saddened. I got my hopes up, but no, despite what the groundhog said, the planet is still in the same position, still tilted at the same angle, and the nights will remain longer than the days until March.
If a purely ceremonial event aimed primarily at kids can't alter the laws of physics and planetary movement, what hope is there for humanity?

Seems to me it should be the opposite. If he sees a shadow it is an early spring and no shadow, which is gloomier, would mean a longer winter.
