Last year, teachers at a middle school near Detroit wrote letters of thanks to their students. Now, the students are taking a turn thanking their former elementary school teachers. NBC News’ Kate Snow has more on the heartfelt displays of gratitude.

I did the same thing with my grade school teacher she came at a time in my life I really needed her she was more then a teacher to me she was like a mother I never had and for that she will always have a special place in my heart for her love you forever Mrs W. I love seeing the teachers getting the much needed recognition and appreciation they deserve. It’s also nice for the kids to understand gratitude and learn a meaningful lesson. The students also need to hear the love affection and appreciation the teachers have for them. Sometimes teachers are the only ones who care about the child. Just like sadly, sometimes school lunch is the only meal a kid may get all day. It is nice to see the humility again. Especially in these times so devided.
As an ex teacher, I can tell you that most of these student notes were prompted by adults, and most are not exactly heartfelt. Sorry. Kids are simply not that sensitive.
I had a teacher named Miss Mason from the 4th thru 6th grade. She was also in charge of the elementary school library. I can't think of anything grand enough to say about her.

I had a teacher in high school that made me feel that I mattered as a person, not just a student. Many years had passed and I would often wonder what ever happened to her. A few years ago I found out that she died in a snowmobile accident. I’ve wanted to contact her family to let them know that she was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person but I just don’t know if I can. This is a great video. I wish I would’ve told my teacher when I had the chance. 😢
