Los Angeles firefighters rescue man who was trying to save dog from rushing water

Los Angeles firefighters rescued a man who got caught in fast-moving water while trying to save his dog on Monday afternoon.

By the time first responders arrived, officials say the dog had managed to swim to safety, but the man had to be hoisted out of the water by helicopter.

Ten inches of rain fell in some areas of Southern California. Many spots saw more than a month’s worth of rain over the last 24 hours.

Los Angeles recorded over 4 inches of rain in 24 hours, marking the city’s wettest day since December 2004.

  1. How about rescuing innocent PALESTINIANS ❤

  2. Ain’t no way he would have been one dead dog… how did he even up in the water? And after all that it swam to safety on its own 🤦🏾‍♀️😩😅

  3. Thanks for letting us know how the dog is. The man loves it the way all pet owners should love their own.

  4. Dumb ways to die. So many dumb ways to die.

  5. So brave the rescue was brilliant

  6. That looks like knee deep water why not make it to the edge and climb out

  7. All the rescuers are awesome, but that pilot is an absolute stud! Well done.

  8. "The dog did not return the show of affection…"

  9. You will never be able to swim against the current when it's that strong. The safest thing to do is keep your head above the water and start swimming towards the edge of the water as you start to go downstream with the current. It will also save you from the huge rescue bill like this guy is going to get 😂

  10. Saving a life is always such a great job indeed, such a great satisfaction like saving the whole universe

  11. It’s amazing the lengths some of us go to save each other and our animal friends and family members.

  12. Oh thank goodness they both got out safe! Good job rescuers!

  13. The dog was being treated at a local shelter but the man had no health insurance so he's sleeping on the street

  14. He was 7 feet from the cement, up to his knees in the water… I love dogs too and would do anything for my dog but if you don't know how to swim don't attempt to be a hero.

  15. That would have been one dead ass dog. That dog know better.

  16. Thank goodness that man and his dog were able to be saved! Thank you to those that made it happen! Y'all are the real heroes! Mad respect to the rescuers!

  17. and it was a mexican going after a chi wa wa

  18. lol good luck with that helicopter bill

  19. Dogs get out of the water themselves more often than not. Unfortunately the owners don't.

  20. My first thought seeing this was the dog is probably a better swimmer than a man but it’s just owner’s instinct to rescue his dog.

  21. That shelter is probably more dangerous for the dog than LA river.

  22. Thank god his dog safe too
Look like he was doubting it with that fist hitting that water

  23. I would do the same thing if I could save my dog 😢
