My wife is native Japanese; she asked what's the difference. I answered basically, "Just being American, the daily news, we deal with a lot of heavy stuff, and especially living in another country we individually have to deal with it. Gadi Schwartz takes the same news and makes it lighter. I can deal with the same issue in a lighter way without BSing about it.
It's basically how many people were hurt or killed versus how many people were saved. That mega church for example, that could have been so much worse; one guy with a rifle in a movie theater did so much worse, but two off duty cops saved so many lives.
