Lesser cars means lesser green house gasses, right?
What was that they interviewed in their room?
car centric suburbia sucks, dont confuse cause with symptom
Even some 90 born don’t have a license yet. We also have the lot of availability of online orders, cabs etc. some people are making use of them. But glueing to the phone is definetely ruining the productivity in the lives of various people.
let me see if i have this straight: Gen z'ers are choosing to spend more money on food, and paying off student loans and less on cars and driving, because they prefer an 'introvert economy' …so they are making themselves more lonely. Haha I see what you did there NBC.
Issac Asimov wrote ”The naked sun” in the early 60ies. It is perfect reading now.
I'm 20 and I bought a 2015 tacoma for 25k with 5% apr and made a 8k down-payment all on army E3 pay. There are even less expensive vehicles that work fine.
Good. I don't want them to drive because they stay glued to their phones.
loneliness is a symptom of perpetual poverty…it costs enough money to stay housed, let lone LEAVE that house
OMG CARS ARE A LUXURY NOT A NECESSITY !!!! THIS NOT A PHENOMENON MOST OF US ARE SIMPLY BROKE !!!! AND RATHER EAT THAN OWN A CAR!!!
I think the loneliest epidemic has more to do with being on her phones. Less interaction. You walk into a lunch room everyone's on their phone before everybody would talk to each other.
Its because of stress due to jobs and or the lack of a job for some. Financial hardships across the board. These psychopaths know what they did.
They will be the generation that saves us.
This propaganda piece brought to you by General Motors lol. In all seriousness, there were some interesting aspects to this report, but tying driving to loneliness completely misses the mark. I’m heartened to see so many comments pointing out the obvious – bad urban planning. This means cities and suburbs that aren’t easily walkable, don’t have good public transit and biking infrastructure and don’t have third spaces, those community gathering spots where young people can congregate, socialize and interact
Hey it helps global warming
Good thing I can drive like a boss and Im 19
I'm a zoomer and I think the problem is that there is nowhere worth going anymore apart from the grocery store and work.
Less idiots on the road 🤷♂️
Yes lets continue to find new scapegoats instead of addressing the main issue.
Sounds like the reporter from family guy
Too pampered or they think they have a driver ( parents)?
Have I got a solution for the truck driver shortage!
F U, You don’t really need a car to have a lot of friends. it’s not rocket science to exercise friendships. The private car industry is getting desperate.
JUST BUILD TRANSIT AND WALKABLE NEIGHBORHOODS!
FFS, y'all act like all this stuff is mysterious. Cars are expensive and wasteful, wages are low, America is mostly unwalkable, and younger people are sick of all this BS. Stop acting like car-centrism ISN'T a major problem.
Lack of driving isn't the issue in Europe where there are communal spaces and the outside isn't designed for cars instead of people, people get a chance to go outside and socialize a lot more. Cars and car centric areas make people LESS likely to go outside, there's no sidewalk sometimes even what about that would make you want to leave your home physically?
Idk about you all.. Im a millennial and I find driving relaxing and fun, no matter what… Socialising has nothing to do with it, how would you explain road trips with friends then?… Don't single out gen z.. Its the human race.. And the way America is designed in terms of urban planning…
Why is this shown like something bad? Less people on roads less accidents
The price of cars is enough to bother any generation. Add the absurd price of car insurance and I dont blame them at all for not wanting a car or to drive. They rather spend that money on significantly better public transportation like far more rail.
there we go again, blaming the pandemic, the reset is real and here.
they can drive there phones. there only going to spend more on therapist, same as a car.
Parents are increasingly unable to buy vechiles (especially for their kid)😂
they don't have the dexterity to drive. if it's not on a phone, they can't do it.
So many bad drivers on the road . Car payments , gas , insurance , car repair and parking fees – fuhgettaboutit
Honestly if you live in a big city really no point of a car since everything conveniently close, but if you live in like the Midwest like me a car fuxking convenient af 😆
Gen Z came at a bad time, honestly. Covid, war, inflation, rise of racism, rise of student debt, global warming and more. 💯
Yon# try food pantry ✌️
I think loneliness is another symptom of/form of poverty. We're so busy working and earning a buck we can't spare any leisure time. We don't have time to be together in a meaningful way. So many interactions nowadays are transactional. It's a symptom of our broken work culture and lack of wages. The average US worker hasn't had an increase in real wages since 1970.
It's because gas is at an all time high doofus cnn
Driving is freedom and independence! There is “loneliness” because they’re not driving. How are you going to pick up your date? On a bicycle, bus, Uber? Not really exciting besides, how are you going to have a family with kids, if you don’t drive. Vicious cycle…sad but maybe it’s just the way it is.
Make walkable communities. We should be driving less
You forgot how many of us young people just hate cars. It's thousands of dollars annually to maintain a car or truck when you can just pay for a bus or rideshare, or just have a designated driver, or pick up e-biking, or just walk.
Gen Z worst athletes because they have the best video games😅😅😅
