Federal officials say thieves are often using fake QR codes to misdirect payments, take customers’ money and steal other important information. Last year, there was about $150 million in reported losses involving fraudulent QR codes.

  1. Wow, the proof that we need to go full circle. Hey, Amish people, need help with the horse and buggy?

  2. Stop using the technology. Go simple cash only. Then what are the scammers going to do

  3. TAKEAWAY: don't scan QR codes .. (modern day version of scam fake URLs in emails)

  4. QR codes should be illegal and banned.🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  5. Outside of stupidly entering your information, this isn’t a problem for iPhone. Unless you’re trying to run the code through a secondary app that has access to sensitive information that is rare on iPhone.

Yet on android, a QR code can initiate so many processes and automations. It’s insane. Absolutely fun when you’re doing it for yourself. Code. Pranks on android users was a great source of fun many years ago.

  6. And people always act like im unreasonable when i refuse to use a qr code.

  7. I remember watching a presentation at a hacker conference several years ago. The presenter was someone from the NSA, and he put a QR code up on the screen. He looked around and asked the audience why no one was scanning the code. Everyone laughed because they knew just how easy it is to exploit QR codes.

  8. We have a lot of ideas that requires a high trust society.

  9. The FBI 😂 that’s a laugh these days

  10. The digital was and cashless/ credit and debit card is the only way scammers and thieves can get your money. Stop using that crap stay liquid my friend. Wake up donkeys

  11. Best thing to do is NEVER scan a QR code.

  12. The parking service is really only upset that THEY weren't being paid.
QR codes and unattended pay stations are examples of lazy businesses…easier to put up an extortion sign than pay an attendant to ACTUALLY secure the lot and YOUR CAR.

Like putting goods out on the sidewalk and being surprised they get stolen.

Here's where you are likely to experience a faked code:
    Parking lots/garages
    Campsites unattended
    Circulars unsolicited
    Government services alerts
Websites that pretend to be what they aren't

  13. A QR code is nothing but a hidden URL.

  14. definitely a sticker should set off warning bells.

  15. I don't use QR codes. I still needed help on figuring out how to use it. I was so lost in 2022 at this Dallas FanExpo. They forced everyone to scan QR codes to get nametags and access. It was ridiculous. I was wandering around confused. QR codes are just as dangerous as all this other technology. Now you have Ay-Eye coming to takeover.

  16. I was just thinking about these and I was wondering if folks even used these still

  17. I really appreciate this article crime and criminals are never going to stop and people need to stay aware and think outside the box, Thank you
