Debt forgiveness isn't an accomplishment – Student loan reform is the ACTUAL solution. Cap tuition, cap interest rates, stop doling out loans like candy, and allowing students to mortgage their future for a degree that will yield zero ROI.

Paying taxes is an insurance policy that makes your life run smoothly. You are not paying taxes which is basically an insurance policy so it benefits people who are not participating in paying taxes. You’re paying an insurance policy to better someone else’s life.!

When I finally paid off the last of my student loans, I felt as though I was finally cured of a debilitating and demoralizing disease. America's higher education system is dependent upon forcing teenagers to borrow increasingly large amounts of money despite having no income, assets, or other forms of collateral to assure repayment. In no other situation would a responsible bank ever agree to such a loan, and yet this ridiculous practice is the foundation of our entire economic model. Because there is no collateral to guarantee repayment, financial institutions have little choice but to enforce extremely high interest rates, garnish wages, and threaten steep penalties for deferment, forbearance, and missed repayment deadlines. It also impacts the economy severely, as younger generations are less able to buy property, start businesses, afford higher degrees, accept unpaid or underpaid internships, or otherwise invest in the future, because they are handicapped by past debts. It is an inherently foolish system, and it becomes exponentially more damaging as tuition increases and cost of living goes up. As someone who paid off tens of thousands of dollars of student loans and got no help aside from Obama's consolidation initiative, I support any measures that give relief to young people, and I couldn't imagine wanting them to suffer just because I paid my dues to a broken and manipulative system.
