As much as we don't want anything to happen, the world is curious on how warfare between two countries with modern weapons and technology will play out against each other. This isn't a middle eastern warfare that the US was used to (if they wish to intervene with boots on ground). This is Russia and seeing how their forces are lined up in the border? Putin wouldn't waste his time and resources just for a military exercise at this scale. This Is intention of submit and be annexed with Russia OR we invade. If they invade, a fight will ensue but depending on military leaders of Ukraine – Ukraine may choose to integrate rather than fight the Russians if the terms include that life goes on and the only change is Ukrainian politicians are booted and replaced with Russian officials.

There are Russian troops near the Ukrainian border carring out training exercises. These exercises were scheduled to take place a long time ago.
Many of those forces are posted to those positions permanently because Ukraine has another 125 000 troops on its side of the border.
130 000 troops or even 200 000 troops are not enough troops to invade a country the size of Ukraine with a population of 44 million people consisting of huge cities with millions of people.
To invade and occupy a country like Ukraine long term Russia would need at least 500 000 soldiers if not more to fight insurgents, protect lines of communication, supply lines, maintain order, protect key Ukrainian infrastructure under occupation critical to running Ukraine or parts of Ukraine.
The invasion part is easy, it's the occupation thst would take the most work.
At this point in time I simply do not see Russia mobilizing its reserves or the amount of manpower for such a task.
End of story.
Everything else is a bunch of baloney.
Nato: Every country has a right to self determination and a right to defend itself from aggression from hostile external threats.
To be fair, If South American countries ask Russia or China or R&C joint force to set up military bases for security, the US should also respect their choice.
