This Ret. Lt. Gen. and other warmongers in USA doesn’t understand is that it is not all about Ukraine…it is all about NATO that keeps on expanding that it reaches the boundaries of Russia. Russia even keep on telling that it doesn’t intend to invade Ukraine otherwise if the Ukraine Government will attack the people in Donbass (Donetsk and Lugansk region) who are majority Ethnic Russians then Russia will make a military move to defend these people that eventually defeat Ukraine Government… If NATO dismantled accompanied by cooperation and concession in both parties, then there will be no tension between West vs. RUSSIA.

With both sides bristling with nuclear, hypersonic and cyber weapons…something has got to go wrong. Some idiot is going to make a goof. Some suicidal maniac is going to decide to take the rest of the world with him. Some guy with stomach cramps and diarrhea is going to gallop off to the bathroom leaving his launch key unlocked. What starts out as a simple SNAFU is going to become a nuclear FUBAR.
I agree with Lt. Gen. Kellog on the fact NATO and the West should have been more prepared for this. But I think what we all in the West fail to recognize is that with our political ideology and leaders changing by design every few years, that we don't have the same consistency and levels of attention to a lot of global issues, whereas China and Russia are highly focused and analyzing and even trying to influence our system's constant change of leaders. Our political ideology and form of democracy is weaker and more vulnerable against these opponents. China and Russia have to secure their national level leaders and regimes while ours are divided and less long-term oriented actors, because our politicians and leaders focus is more on their competition at home than abroad. Our leaders would rather try to silence or put off dealing with issues abroad as opposed to China and Russia who have their objectives carved out and ready to go just waiting for the right moment. Unfortunately, Biden's sloppy and rushed promise and act of pulling us out of Afghanistan and allowing the Taliban to take over rapidly and essentially take all the equipment and gear we left to the helpless submissive Afghan Army displayed a great sign of weakness and poor planning on our end to our competition. They will in turn seek to exploit such an opportunity to their own advantages seeing Biden say we don't need to be in Afghanistan they can easily argue we don't need to be in Ukraine or Taiwan as they are doing. Biden was right to end the Afghan occupation and failed nation-building, but he did a very poor job of leading and executing it. He blames the military, the military blames Biden. So foreign powers see that the US military is not exactly crazy about Biden right now as it hurts to see your enemy who killed your own wearing your gear and shaming us with it. Putin is in a very good position right now and I think he will get what he wants. Putin does not want to own Ukraine as I believe General Keane pointed out in another interview on this Republican News Media outlet 'Fox" as again our divisions weaken our society because even our journalism has no values system anymore and will sell out to politicians and political parties and in turn misinform and confuse our citizens using fear and bias to turn a profit for themselves. Capitalism is nice, but it is not very synonymous with a strong democracy, because at this point people are chasing money over values, over non-biased information, and over the role they are granted as we are not taking responsibility for our democracy to ensure it remains and that's very unfortunate and the fault of our society and these sell outs as a whole for allowing this to happen.
Putin has threatened us and NATO with nuclear war if we attempt to help Ukraine try and take back Crimea. Being that we all stood down on that when it happened leads me to believe we will stand down to Putin and Russias demands after our leaders have all finalized their campaign arguments for the future knowing they don't really want it out with Russia and Russia doesn't want it out with us as that would hurt the bottom line too much. Unfortunately, for Ukraine they are in a lousy geopolitical location trapped as a buffer zone until the US and or Russia were to somehow fall in the near future… Ukraine would be wise to recognize their reality and seek to be a peacekeeper between the US/NATO and Russia for their own sake, because they can be a democracy somewhat but they cannot join NATO and they cannot join Russia. Russia and Putin won't take over Ukraine, they will simply roll in take out the current leaders or run them out and ensure that their interests are met protecting their national security and exit Ukraine when done. The question comes down to, do we in the West really want to help Ukraine break free entirely from Russia and reclaim Crimea? Are we willing to risk nuclear war and massive human loss on all sides for Ukraine?
I personally do not think NATO expansion into Ukraine is worth dying for or risking nuclear war. Even if Putin is bluffing, which I don't think he is, war with NATO and Russia won't end well. This is non-negotiable for Russia, and Putin I must say has been extremely patient and consistent in his demands whether we like or agree with them or not. Unfortunately, with all due respect to Ukraine and their ideal of being a sovereign nation-state, one has to be real here and recognize their are levels to geopolitics and it is more complex and less fair than we like to pretend it is. If Ukraine could hold their own against Russia, then more power to them. It would be a good fight, and Putin and Ukraine would prefer to avoid it, but entering into their drama is unwise at this time. Putin has this one in the bag and is simply giving the Western leaders time to address their audiences and kindly back away which they will do or we will all go to war with Russia and risk a nuclear war and tipping the scale in China's favor all over Ukraine. You got to pick your battles in life. Backing down to Putin and swallowing your pride sucks, but at the end of the day he sees NATO expansion as a threat to Russia and how he views geopolitics in the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter of the law. Putin being a lawyer and spy by training he will find loopholes and vulnerabilities and timing to exploit. Make no mistake, his intentions are to assert dominance over Ukraine or keep it fully neutral. Anything else it is war. We can build up NATO defense in NATO countries, but aside from throwing kind words and gear at the Ukrainians and saying good luck, that's about it as sanctions and talks won't change anything here. Now we wait for world leaders to make their choice. World War III or back away from Ukraine and do damage control to their individual campaigns of re-election and so on where their opponents will exploit this situation and how it was handled for their own gains.

NATO is worthless. For many years the US was 1 of the only 3 nations paying annual dues. Trump was and economist and ran the US as one and never did he have anything to do with NATO. Biden and this administration run the economy like a slot machine.

It's a no-brainer: you announce that Ukraine is not our fight, we have no skin in that game, but this is not true for every country around the world. Then you shut up, make no commitments, and keep American options open.
Privately and publicly, point out that Ukraine is in eastern EUROPE so people and governments in that region do have natural skin in the game whether they like the fact or not.
