More than seven months later, there is still no definitive answer for what caused the deadly condo tower collapse in Surfside, Florida. But some scientists are turning their attention to an overlooked threat: salt water rising up from underground, damaging the building’s foundation. NBC News’ Jon Schuppe reports.

Florida can’t even handle 5 more feet of rising sea level. Honestly they should stop building high rises there at this point.
Shouldn't build near water Mother Nature will take back what's hers eventually
What happened to the safety inspection history?
You guys are still talking about this? Are you feeling guilty ? I wish I could post a video in the comments. Or tweets from John McAfee. You all need to do your research. This is going to keep happening because people just accept the bull$hit that this disgusting MSN spews to us. This was a deepstate rush to cover up 31 terabytes of incriminating evidence that John McAfee had stored in his penthouse suite here at surf side condos. I have the video of the building being brought down. I mean if you open your eyes and start thinking for yourselves , you can even see the charges going off in the video that the news has aired from the camera across the street at the hotel. Geez people. They are rubbing it rite in our faces. People laid in that rubble like they did at the twin towers suffering in agony. This stuff shouldn’t be happening on this land.
Of course scientists have a new theory. Now they’ll want multimillion dollar grants to study and develop more theories. When the money runs out the theories run out.
Ot isn't a mystery why that building failed. There's solid evidence of poor maintenance and bad construction..
They are going to rebuild on that spot within a year.
Rip to all the victims 🙏🏽
Yikes.
Gotta get those liberal propaganda buzzwords in the narrative…"rising sea levels"
There have been people living on the coasts of Florida, since the dawn of man.
If you're trying to tell me that nobody thought about the effect saltwater would have on buildings they built, after humans have been building next to the open sea there for, oh, 1000 or so years, they finally thought of it?
Um, do yourself a favor: don't fall for Republican malarkey, or next, they'll have you buying a bridge to Brooklyn. Jeeze…
You Can’t Build A House On Sand ❗️🤷🏻♂️
Shouldn’t all buildings near the coast be on alert?
FL has more than 400 sinkholes. FL is a sponge supporting 21.48 million ppl.
stupid humans
Water Damage , It's called Spalling Dishing Sinking and Sagging of Concrete Rebar Structure Supports
– look at Jeff Ostroff s Utube on the collapse of the Surfside Miami Dade County Champlain Towers
You are playing Russian Roulette living in those buildings – you have to have more than one screw loose to live in those buildings
Or Florida is FLAT and Florida is sinking!!
Huh… Interesting… Rising sea water level was again talked about… Yet!!!! Theres still some government officials dont believe in climate change… 🤡🤡🤡
COVERUP!
Add 1 more to the millions of reasons why to not move to Florida
Saltwater? Well… If anyone has noticed, the area is near the Antlantic Ocean, which is full of saltwater.
Seawater is very corrosive all that water underneath it is why the swimming pool collapse first
Another coverup.
Makes sense!
No place is safe due to climate change. Just look at what happened with the remenets of Hurricane 🌀 Ida that went to the Northeast in New Jersey, New York City, and New England. It flooded the interior. Scary stuff. I just want a condo but have to knock on wood that isn’t near any body of water. Scary stuff man
They cut costs being cheap companies do this all the time to save millions of dollars that they already haveeeeeeeeeeee
The board probably kept deferring maintenance to keep maintenance fees low. There are a lot of condos where the board does not maintain the buildings properly because you know, “ concrete lasts forever”. But, the maintenance fees stay low. The failure of this building was not a surprise. Concrete restoration is a major cost every 30-40 years, boards often vote not to fund this component.
You have to wonder if it would be a more pertinent and safer way thinking, for any buildings with eager to rust mild steel providing the tension holding together high rise brittle concrete structures built on the beach, in terms of there is no definitive answer on how these buildings can stay up so long.
This is so stupid, ever parked a car by the sea too long? Or even just like miles away from the sea?
Ish will rust from just the Seabreeze, we all just overlook all these flaws and cracks and our systems and go about our lives UNTIL lives are lost
It was not build good
From day one I was saying sea level raise was a most likely cause or at least contributor to the collapse. We will see accidents like this increasing. Not only in Florida, but all along low lying coastal areas, so now is the time to figure out how to select and address this damage before collapses are common place. People in tidal areas are talking about rebuilding washed out homes on stilts,. Think about It, that didn't used to be a thing in the US.
Florida needs to stop building. You know they will be the first to ask for a Federal handout when Florida sinks!
Where was the sister building riverside?
Not in tune with Mother Nature
America underwater. Goodbye.
Salt water underground and yet the other twin tower is still standing, as well as surrounding buildings. 🤔
Another reason to stay as far away from Florida as possible..
All we do is fighting nature, we better respect nature to avoid crisis.
Florida… it's built on sand and sinkholes.
The fossil fuel industry is responsible !
Controlled demolition
What bollocks.
If saltwater was involved it was added at the concrete mixing stage.
