His tears aren't sincere. It's like if they show some kind of remorse then the judge will feel sorry for them and what he they won't go to jail. Fake tears.
Certainly a tragedy, but it's part of the cost of living in a crime-filled neighborhood where police are nervous and have itchy trigger fingers. The other part of the cost is crime itself, which is the true perpetrator of tragedies like this. Frankly, this would not have been a tragedy if people invested in security cameras rather than guns for self-defense. With cameras you'd know immediately if the action was crime or law enforcement, and therefore would not do something stupid. If it was crime, you could flee, and if it was law enforcement you could approach peacefully with hands raised to get your questions answered.
Don't distribute dangerous narcotics in your neighborhood and don't fire upon police through your own door. Follow these rules and you will live for many more years.
