Same with the automobile industry. A few years ago Dealers in the US for Volkswagen and other brands built in Mexico, noticed "customers" would show up and ask for particular vehicles by vin number. The vehicles would then be purchased in cash. When law enforcement investigated they found out drugs were being sealed into door panels, fake gas tanks right at the Auto Plant in Mexico and when shipped to the US those drugs would be retrieved by legitimate buyers. Sometimes sales agents in the know would broker the deals. Sting operations by the DEA revealed a very common practice.
The airline industry has had this issue for years where the ground loading crew would load the drugs into the plane hold on the tarmac. Once the plane touched down it was unloaded by a ground crew member in the know. Meaning the contraband never made it to the airport to go through customs inspections where dogs or sniffer machines could be waiting. There is even a DEA video on youtube. It appears they finally got to aircraft repair technicians who are now doing the same thing if the plane was brought in for service abroad.
