The 94th Academy Awards spiraled out of control last night when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock after his monologue joking about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. The Academy condemned Smith’s action, saying it’s beginning a “formal review” of the incident to explore further consequences. Smith later apologized to Rock on social media, saying he was “out of line” and “wrong”.

You know no healthy person can understand the pain when someone makes fun of a person with a health condition. It hurts because it's something completely out of your control. I don't condone violence but if it were my wife I'd probably react the same way.

I would’ve rather Denzel won it. At least he is above this foolishness. Denzel’s speech would’ve elevated the Oscar, not tarnished it. Denzel is class personified, and frankly I thought Denzel was miles better than Smith in Macbeth. A real man takes responsibility for his actions, acknowledges when he falls short, and tries to make it right by apologizing for his part in it. In his speech of excuses, he tries to blame love (BS if you ask me) and everyone else. He didn’t apologize to Chris for physically assaulting him over a joke that was less than any burn Ricky Gervais made as tenure in the Globes. Then to see his son justify his violence on twitter over a joke (in bad taste, but still) speaks volumes as to the entitlement and warped way they have been raised.
