Cutting the military budgets is a mistake other countries make and ultimately can result in them being invaded. Look at Ukraine. A large, big military can be a deterrence so you never have to deal with a war, since no one would even think of challenging it. With China more powerful than the USSR ever was economically, things are more dangerous than they were in the cold war. To ignore the risks is to ignore reality. Peace through strength.
