Ummmm, so not just a “bad outcome,” but a 10% chance (same as a plane crash) of FULL HUMAN EXTINCTION?
The best thing a sentient AI could do for humanity is to prevent us from killing each other, not by force, but by disrupting supply chains, communications, and financial transactions that enable the military machines throughout the world.
I think we should go definitely keep creating it. If we don’t do it then China will. The toothpaste is out of the tube. I don’t think Ai will destroy humans. I think we watch to much science fiction 😂. Chat GPT gets things wrong all the time and so it’s not All knowing super computer. The Ai we have is very elementary. I don’t fear Ai I fear evil people who will use it.
Can we get this thing to help law enforcement track down criminals by piecing together digital traces?
Thankfully, Tesla's promise that their autopilot was safe to put on the road came true, and there have not been any deaths as a result of beta testing potentially deadly technologies without non-Tesla driver's consent. It's not as if these tech workers would prioritize the value of their companies stock over the safety of society. It's not like Tesla spent 3/4 of a BILLION dollars lobbying our politicians in 2022 alone to usurp the common voters interests in the direction of their country. They lobbied in order to educate our leaders on how best to serve our interests!

Think about it…a computer thinks logically not emotionally. So when AI see that we are in perpetual wars, we are harming the environment, we rage against one another because of politics/race/gender/religion…why wouldn't AI destroy whatever is destroying the world.

I don't think people full understand how AI is going to change the world job market. Basically, if you job function can be represented by a flowchart…..your job or your industry is at risk for AI conversion.
I wish they would give examples of what could go wrong. That people won't be able to tell what is real and what is faked, is the only example they give. I'm sure there are dangers, what might those dangers be? Will they make an AI that can hypnotize people? Will AI "friends" fullfill people so much that they don't form human-to-human relationships anymore?
Imagine how it will be when something exists that is many times smarter than you and can think 100x faster than you. Think about it seriously, realistically and creatively, and try not to be biased about it.
How can I tell if they are not fear mongering? Maybe show an expert with a different viewpoint?

There is a perspective that is being ignored: A.I. does not create art: it cannot. It IS THE ART being created. It can only reference and recombine. It cannot create without human hands and spirit. Art does not create. It is created by humans.

Lessons learned from the past, technology, and innovation wait for no one. What scares me is other countries. We can try to put a leash on A.I., all we want, but other countries won't. When it comes down to the bottom line l, profits always win.

The Universe may have a propensity for intelligence, but I doubt that it has a preference for biological intelligence over artificial intelligence. From the example of the horrible things that humans do to each other, we haven't made a case for the continuance of our species. We are nasty creatures.
This is terrifying. Stephan Hawking warned us along time ago about the very real possibility AI will destroy humankind. I believe him.
