Beginning September 7th, American Airlines will pull its regional service from four small towns citing the pilot shortage. United Airlines has also pulled out of around 20 cities since the pandemic’s start. Delta dropped 3. According to the Regional Airline Association, more than 300 airports have seen air service reductions in the last three years. Businesses and residents in places like Dubuque, Iowa are now hoping to fight that change and restore the loss of air service.

Find a way to help low time pilots get more hours "affordably" and you will have pilots.
These are private firms that are responding to markets and economics.
It's opportunity for new competitors.
Nothing more.
White privilege to me. Save the planet
Why can't they call Al Queda? Just make them behave if they're hired
Yes!.
You need high speed train connecting you with nearest major Airport…problem solved..high speed rail has its own beauty and utility which others can't fill in.
Where are all the female pilots that were supposed to take over the male dominated field to replace men?? I guess affirmative action didn't guite work out like femanist and liberals expected so now we're suffering. Another social engineering failure.
Women demanded affirmative action for being pilots at national airlines and airlines stopped hiring retired military pilots because they were men, they even set up pathways for women to take the male pilots jobs. . Men were turned away by airlines because they had to step aside for female pilots. Now we don't have enough pilots and the ones who wanted and were qualified found other employment. WOMEN still have first choice of jobs flying commercial but not enough could qualify or handle the stress so look what's happened. Another social experiment gone haywire.
Hopefully Robert Barrow retired. He didn't give 2 💩 about the FA's.
Envoy in Dallas in-flight has the worse management ever when it comes to flight attendants. Kevin I believe is his name. He treats fa's like 💩. He cares more about kissing management @$$. Not to mention their union screwed them over big time. The way they tore the old eagle apart was barbaric. So glad the pilots get to eventually fly with mainline.
It’d be great if we had trains all up and down the east
Getting outta hand now.
Make education affordable and maybe you'll still have professionals in the future or take a chance with people that think they can handle it.
Islip MacArthur Airport is tiny, with barely any restaurants
I must say that I flew on a American Airline PSA flight and it was the best experience I every had with an airline. It was delayed, the captain updated everyone. He started beverage service early. The airplane had COLD AC on the ground and the crew and captain greeted every passenger as we exited the plane…very professional
Reactivate train service, every Flight should be training flight, there are pilots everywhere, they are just at higher paying jobs, pilots can make more money at almost any job.
I see BWI or DC international airport on the map so that map is irrelevant. If one of the biggest airports is getting reduced you might as well say EVERY airport
Cut them off. Put the little airports out of business.
Maybe we can start using automated high speed trains.
That ends the day my son hunter comes out.
Too F ng bad, I quite as a Regional Airline Pilot last year.. 30k gross.. I can walk..
Maybe if they cut the cost for flight school that might help people like me, My dream was to become a pilot but I don’t have the resources for flight school so that dream is out the window I guess, praying for a miracle.
Crazy, an sad. No jobs too.
Reason why I refrained from studying to be a pilot: Not wanting to deal with student debt in the future.
Malarkey!
Walmart used same reason to close 24 hour stores. Time we fight back
Airlines are just abysmal these days.
“Drive up fares and increasing the cost for passengers.” Sounds redundant to say that doesnt it?
Okay, so Dubuque residents are losing their handful of flights a day, and their 5-10 minute drive to their airport. Meanwhile, they can drive an hour to Cedar Rapids or Quad Cities, or two hours to Madison or Rockford. All 4 airports are significantly larger and serve significantly more destinations, meaning they might actually get to their destination faster due to a direct flight not offered from the single gate Dubuque airport. Put this in context with crew shortages and it’s not hard to see why service was cut.
Maybe they should help fund flight training so airlines aren’t running beyond their crew capacity, then lower yield routes like Dubuque won’t be cut. Perhaps one or two of the 8 colleges near Dubuque could offer an aviation program North Dakota University, Purdue University, or those run by dozens of other universities, partner with ATP like Arizona State University has. There are better solutions then whining on national television.
Good,
They are selling tickets for flights that have no pilots lol
Eventually there will be shortage of everything, as long as people don't treated in a humane way. People shall rise up one day.
They’re trying to close our small airport to build homes ..
I live about an hour and a half south of there and had no idea they even had a large airport I never would have thought it could have supported one.
Call in Allegiant, they save the smaller regional airport.
American is a disaster
It’s almost like there are consequences for CEO bonuses and hiring advisement firms that only advise on not paying people and focusing on shareholders. 🤔 Maybe legislation should change to make some of these practices finable based on a CEO’s take home pay?
It’s just like Iola Wisconsin to Green Bay an hour away
An hour drive is not so bad leaving out of Cedar Rapids Iowa
Oh wow really wow
