An American tourist was murdered while vacationing in Turks and Caicos. NBC News’ Niala Charles reports on how officials are saying the man was shot by armed gang members returning from an excursion.

I was in Provo in 1980 as a child. The most beautiful place I’ve ever seen with pink sand beaches and crystal clear water. So strange to hear about crime there. Condolences to the family and friends of the victim.

No way I am sunbathing on a beach with armed guards looking like that guarding it. There are beaches everywhere. Go to one that is safe. No brainer.
This looks targeted.
The gangs are out of control, as they get more & more power, and members. They need to be watched & stopped before inflicting damage. This is devastating for the tourist industry there, to say nothing of the pain & suffering of family members of the deceased. Another example of gang control is in Mexico. San Miguel de Allande was loved by tourists & expats until gangs or organized crime moved in. They have ruined the place.
Tourist must have been doing something really dumb and bad. Can't imagine turks people killing anyone. The island is tiny and mostly everyone is old.

Actually this incident does reflect who you are as a people. I'm not going to moan and whine about the fact they weren't safe as your guests, nowhere is actually safe even the retired PM of Japan wasn't actually safe. But you didn't have to MAKE them victims, you don't allow guests to defend themselves, you don't even allow law abiding citizens to reasonably defend themselves. If a man pulls a gun out on my and you deny me the basic human right to do the same in return to at least try and save my own life. You as a society have committed that murder.
