The preeminent Republican message for some time now is that if you produce a President who turns out to be a traitor do everything you can to deny it and shield him from facing the punishment of the law. I guess this is so the party’s name isn’t besmirched and the “brand” stays strong but the more and the longer this goes on the worse it becomes as the contortions to legitimize his criminal behavior rots those trying to defend it.
