If you don't like a book and don't want your child to read it — then don't let your child read it! Since when is it everyone else's job to monitor what your child reads?
Public libraries have a children's section. There are no sexually explicit, "adult" books in it. All you as a parent need to do is go with your child to the library, and control what your child checks out. That's it. If that's too hard for you, then you aren't really worried about what your child reads.

Reading books helps people develope basic thinking / reasoning skills. This would include books with topics that make us uncomfortable.

Not sure if I found the complete list, but I see 12 books. 12? Henrietta Lacks is a pretty important story, and pretty relevant considering how the US and China are snatching up genetic information. There isn't anything stopping private companies from filling patents using non-consenting peoples' DNA.
But for the most part, I'd call this the ideology wagon. I don't like the banning of books at all. Spread the love around some.
