This money for bailouts would have been better spent on programs for high school students to learn a trade like ,welding , pipefitting , electrical , carpentry . A trade that will make them money to help pay for their college if later they decide to pursue higher education , bailout is wrong .I saved my money to pay for my 2yrs of trade school in instrumentation , after graduation I worked for a major oil company for 36 yrs. Everyone doesn't have a rich mom and dad

Why not join the army, serve your country and earn an education? I went to school on the G.I. bill and it cost me four years of maturing and having discipline and respect in my life and knowing what it takes to succeed. I was not a finical drain on my parents that worked in a cotton mill. I feel like I paid for my own education. I also got a good education in the military called growing up and respect for others.

Well, if the educational debts are holding students back from owning a home or getting married and starting a family, why go to colleges that cost so much? They could have saved their money and got a good job without a worthless college degree. I worked at a public library once, and one of the persons with a secure position bragged that she never went to college, but she had a job, a house and a car. So, a lot of good jobs can be had without going to Yale or U of Chicago. Or one could go to some small community college for a two year degree and get a job as good as the ones many Ivy League college grads get with their not so great degrees. A lot of students do not have the brains and ambition to become a physicist, chemist, lawyer or business executive. But they could still get a nice job with perhaps modest expectations. Even with a degree it can be hard to find work, and in some seemingly attractive careers, people drop out. A relative of mine got a degree in business, but he now works as a truck driver. He likes his job better than the office and store jobs he had previously. Another person I know was getting a PhD in classics, now he drives a taxi. He had a couple of more academic jobs, but he did not enjoy them and quit. Not everyone considers a good job to be a good job for them.

I went to college but incurred NO student debt because I worked part time going through a major university while living at home. When I went to college you either paid for your own college expenses, your parents paid for them or if you were able to get a scholarship. All of my friends did the same thing. There was no such thing as student loans and if you were able to get one, you were the one to pay it off, not the government !
