"Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns" which no one can prove since we have only been recording data for 125 years tops and all the data from ice cores is subject interpretation due to long term degradation of the sample just sitting there in the ground. So we really don't know if this is the cause it's only speculation.

1988 was wicked hot and dry in my part of the wold. The years around it were bad too. It passed. We set an all time high temp record in 1988 that still stands. Show me proof we have not had that sort of 1998 weather or the hot dry weather we have this year, or even worse, in the last 5000 years. They found a hiker missing for 30+ years on the Matterhorn recently. Due to snowpack melt he became discoverable suddenly. Imagine in 5 or 10 years time that discovery site could be under 30 ft of snow for a further 36 years again. Who can say for sure
