Maui authorities evacuated residents from a neighborhood of Lahaina after a brush fire, a few miles from the site of the deadly blazes, was reported.

Guess they're not satisfied with the amount of people they killed in Hawaii already. Not to mention the miles of black covering where the original fire was so you can't see what's going on anymore. What are you hiding Governor of Hawaii and Mayor of Maui?
This video is saddening. Everything they did in response to this fire, they could have done in response to the small fire near Lahaina that re-ignited and caused or contributed to the deadly Lahaina fire. There was zero readiness throughout Maui for a wildfire. That is the real tragedy. They had the training, experience and equipment to do a better job and just didn't bother to do it. They are still making in my opinion one grave mistake, inviting tourists to return to south Maui right now. The fire conditions are extreme throughout Maui and they don't need additional tourists to be evacuated from the next fire. Have the tourists wait until November, when conditions might improve.
