A Kentucky bus driver took notice as one of his elementary school passengers boarded the bus in tears. After finding out it was because the student had no pajamas for Pajama Day, the bus driver bought him some. David Muir shares the heartwarming story.

So sad the parents knew about and didn’t even try to get one for the kid but getting their nasty plastic nails done and their fake nasty stinky wig they do have money for that but no for pj for the poor kid

This is a wonderful story but it's the same old American story. A significant number of Americans are very poor and can't afford the basics – housing, food and clothing. The answer is not to have random strangers fill those needs. The answer is to pay everyone a living wage and to supply everyone with some kind of universal basic income. That would be socialism? No, that would be human kindness. It would also be very shrewd economic thinking. A child that has the basics will do dramatically better in school. An adult who has the basics will do dramatically better at work.
