Cedars-Sinai is facing a federal civil rights investigation over their treatment of Black women giving birth. The investigation comes after the death of Kira Johnson, a woman who died after a scheduled c-section delivery of her child in 2016. NBC News’ Valerie Castro reports.

Racist in Los Angeles does not surprise me. I hope that he got settlement.
Welcome to Amerikkka 👺
I had a doctor who tried to keep on me the same amount of pills when I got to his office, the dosage was suppose to decrease as time went on. He kept the dosage the same, he also took white patients over me and even though I had an appointment, he ghosted me during COVID. Got a new doctor, much better treatment with a lot lesser meds.
During my yearly checkup at the OB-GYN office. I was met by a hostile practitioner who was very snippy and condescending with her tone. I was laying on the bed with my feet in the stirrups. No way was I going to allow this woman to insert any instruments into my womb. I sat up and asked her to leave. After getting dressed I approached the front desk and asked for the practitioners supervisor name to file a complaint.
Ladies, please advocate for yourself and others. Especially when you are in a vulnerable state. Make your voice be known.
When you take an oath to save lives that means all lives. How can you be in the medical field and not care. What if the role was reversed how will this doctors n nurses feel. Karma is real no matter who you are.
This needs to happen on a nationwide level. I'm so happy that the surgical tech spoke up and told the truth.
Black Americans have dark skin, but they deserve the same medical treatment any other ethnic group., because at the end of the day we are all part of the HUMAN RACE FOR GOODNESS SAKE!✝️🙏💕
I can't imagine losing my wife to the hands of bigoted doctors.
It's so digusting.
My mother is a physician and I'm an attorney. To get an insurance settlement for a doctor's negligence – the evidence has to be so overwhlemingly high, that alone proves what the husband is saying is true.
Not providing proper care that results in a death is negligent homicide!
I don’t believe it
IT’s Democratic state that supports woke culture and radical BLM. How ironic is this is happening in California
wow disgusting
I’m pregnant now and this will be my last my anxiety is on high I worked in the health field baby you in danger . Right now I don’t even feel safe at all!!!!!
He is sueing everyone
This is why when my mom is in the hospital, I go straight up there if I know about it. Because I'm afraid that they're not going to treat her right if she doesn't have a family member WITH HER to advocate for her, and to be an eyewitness if she's not treated with respect, that way it's not her word against theirs. Because people will further discriminate and make excuses and assume because my mother is a Black woman she had an attitude with the staff or something or she's making it up. I literally fear that, I've gone to sit next to my mother at the hospital when we weren't even on speaking terms because that's how important that is to me.
Ive had an older travel nurse (im sure she didnt mean harm) tell me how much she preferred young black patients because we are 'stronger' and less complainitive than others. If i had the strength at the time i woulda loved to have told her maam maybe you just had good paitents and it isnt their race but its actually a thing in the medocal feild that black ppl can be treated more lax bc we supposedly have higher pain tolerance 🙄
He sounds very bitter out there.
Theyd have been right to direct her to the closes vet or animal shelter
Or abortion clinic
Happened to me, coded, may have never been here to see my child. After we decided to not have anymore children. Thankful everyday to God.
Its insulting when the news are using the word Black women instead of African American women? How do you feel when’s it’s White women instead of American women?
What is it about our skin colour that makes non -black races treat us less than even in 2023. This is really sad and because we are black, the races feel we shouldn’t be allowed to have the level of care than our counterparts
This is systemic and just downright inhumane! Look at the data!! PRAYING FOR A CHANGE!
❤❤❤
It's not just childbirth. My primary care physician was given the side eye by other Dr's because of her behavior with me. One of my team of Dr's excused herself, took the other Dr to the other room, and ripped her to shreds due to her lack of professionalism and seemingly mistreatment.
Disgusting. Get ready for a slew of excuses and finger-pointing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start blaming the dead patients.
This is ridiculous do better hospitals especially in childbirth if Roe was overturned
I love how he continues to advocate for Kera and this maternal crisis. The racial bias statistics are clear this is not opinion base. Overall our society treats pregnant women and mothers very poorly and then wonder why the birth rate is so low.
The karma that awaits wht people smh disgusting
But yet the scream about women having abortion when these people are killing our black women kmft
And people will still argue that there is no need to make sure there is adequate representation of minorities in academic institutions. If you're not purposefully making sure that Black students are admitted then you're purposefully ensuring that there are fewer Black doctors. Case after case has shown this. There is a reason why we talk about Black and Non-White Latino infant mortality rates but don't hear the same about Asian and White people during childbirth. When you have physicians White, Asian, etc that see Black people as "other", and think they can't possibly be in pain , are being dramatic etc. this is what happens. I literally worked with an Asian resident last month that went into a room where the patient was crying and in her presentation told the attending that the patient was aggressive and he should make sure he is ready to deal with that before he walks into the room. I really hope that more medical assistants and other non-Physician staff who observe this behavior speak up. Simply having Black, Latino, Native American classmates can help start to address the bias some of these physicians have but if you close off the field to people that were privileged to just study and get the highest passing grades vs people that had high passing grades while truly experiencing life, seeing struggle, and getting to know people from varied backgrounds our medical system is heading for the bin
uh oh…
This story was incredibly sad, god bless that man and child.
This gotta stop
Go get em!
I am absolutely devastated by this being an African American woman, we need change!!!
I was always one of the only white people when I worked in healthcare so I’m interested to know what the hospital’s demographics are.
Just because the hospital is accused of something doesn't make it true. Hard to prove. Sometimes during tragedies we really want to find a bogeyman. Praying for her family for peace.
All I can say is I applied there and they hired someone with a fake certification over me, lol with a real one.
I'm not surprised, I had an incident at that hospital twice on the same emergency room visit.☕🤔
Terrifying
They should make white couples pay a tax if they want to reproduce. If and when the white race becomes a minority nothing is going to change. The United States was built on racism, you can't fix that. Have to start a new.
Though I never had a have I’ve been dismissed by doctor I had this yte neurologist yell at me and tell me I was fine when we finally did a MRI they found weird spots all over my brain. These people don’t see us as humans
They’ll care when they they lose the money more people need to sue
Listen. I live in the south of the USA and this is a bunch of LIES.
We are all treated the SAME where I live ! Someone is trying to spread hate all over again !
