Carey would have no issues stumping Bairstow again | Men’s Ashes 2023

Speaking for the first time since his stumping of Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s, Alex Carey says he has no regrets and would pull off the same move again if given the opportunity.

  5. Carey got rattled after the incident.. Coudnt score well.. After that

  6. Careful son we all know there are consequences to your actions, just ask Haddin about his daughter or Glenn about his wife. The universe does take back what is owed.

  7. His wicket keeping has been first class.

  8. I'm an England fan and I had no problem with it. As Cummins said "catch and throw was one motion"I did not see any pause or delay in play . When the series ends the declaration at Edgbaston is likely to be the turning point that decided the series and the Bairstow mistake at Lords. I guess it would have been forgotten if England won. I doubt we would have heard about it agian. It was about the match situation and not about wider cricket implications. The message in the interview is that Australia seek approval only internally back in Australia. Not the English media. Ironic though our media here "state the spirit of cricket" but also state "how good and gripping the Ashes series" is where both sides play their part. That has to be a contradiction. They can't be good and bad for cricket

  9. Very intelligent guy 😉

  10. 1. At this point it's the media that keep banging on about this thing. It's really boring.
    2. I don't really like that this has triggered some people into overcorrecting and just pretending that 'The Spirit of the Game' doesn't exist in some contexts. Like, I would still hope that captains would rescind appeals for things like collision run-outs (Elliott/Sidbottom style) and nobody starts appealing for batters throwing the ball back. I wouldn't even want things like the Bairstow stumping if Carey had shadow-thrown to slip or waited a couple of seconds. And I don't like things like dummy-Mankads (Mankads where a dummy delivery is shadow-bowled to coerce the batter out the crease, rathe than the bowler actually seeing the batter come out of the crease). The issue isn't that the Spirit of the Game doesn't exist. It's that it had no reason to apply in this instance since…it's just out, there was no deviousness or ambiguity…it's just out.
    3. As has been pointed out here already, Bairstow himself hasn't even said anything about the stumping. He was angry in the moment, as anyone probably would be, but the guy himself hasn't actually complained about it.
    4. The crowd are the crowd and while I'd be annoyed with them if I was an Aus supporter, they can be just as much of a stimulant as a threat.

TLDR: England fan here. He should do it again, nothing to be ashamed of and some of the UK reaction was dumb especially in the media and the Long room. On the other hand, not a fan of the overcorrection that pretends there aren't some unwritten elements to the game that should supercede the laws in certain circumstances. Just not this one.

  11. The most people talk about it, the more obvious the dismissal is totally fair and justified. “Oh he thought the over was done” is like saying “oh he didn’t mean to overstep the line and bowl a no ball”, or “he didn’t mean to step on his stumps”. Since when has someone’s intention and mistakes saved them from being out. I’ve been run out from slipping over, I didn’t mean to, is it against the spirit of cricket to run me out then?

  12. Carey should get an honourary Knighthood for that stumping.

  13. Tum to beta bachapan se hi harami ho😂😂

  14. Its boring to bring up the same topic again

  15. This cunt is unbelievable, no remorse, no shame

  16. If the stumping of Jonny Bairstow was against the Spirit of the Game of Cricket, then Sledging is also equally if not much more disrespectful and damaging to the psyche of any Cricketer isn't it ??

  17. I don't think I've seen an interview with Jonny Bairstow about the stumping. If I were him, I'd be embarassed that his stupidity cost his team a pivotal test match. If Australia win this series 3-2, Bairstow can know that he was the reason his team lost.

  18. Time to win ashes don't wait for the oval finish it off at old Trafford
