I don't think the west treated putin with respect he deserved cause he communicates differently to the gossipy type of polititcians you get in the west.. he is more standoffish and reticent and besides the history of the countries is in the minds of the west. Therefor the west missed all the opportunities to bring the world closer together (which is necessary for GLOBAL F'N WARMING by the way) and putin came to the conclusion they were a bunch of liars who did not stick to their word. This meant that he felt he needed to start this war. The question now is how can we stop it.
