Burns is a very distinguished guy. He previously served in the State Department from the early 80’s until the mid-2010’s, earning the title of Deputy Secretary during the Obama Administration. He’s served primarily in the Middle East (Jordan in particular) and Russia. The guy knows his stuff. His autobiography is a great read.
The Biden administration should seriously consider sending Mayor Pete.
