The coastline of North Carolina’s Outer Banks is under threat and officials are trying to fortify the area by adding sand to the beaches. NBC News’ Anne Thompson visited the barrier islands to see how residents there are dealing with rising sea levels, which are fueled in part by climate change.

Despite the economic downturn, I'm happy ☺️. I have been earning $60,200 returns from my $10,000 investment every 13 days
Climate crisis equals greed
Land erosion is not climate change😂😂wtf is wrong with liberals.. hurricanes are not climate change. Please someone tell me, when has the climate not been changing in the last 4.6 billion years?
um maybe don't keep building houses on sand?
Now with all the ice melting I don't think it would hurt to take the ocean water and use it purify it and lower the sealevels is the world did that it could save our coastal lands and property why dont you just renforce your foundation of your homes the stilts and framing that holds it up you know they do make products that could with stand a hurricane or storm surge but you all live up north you all might not know that..now go on I ques it's time for you to go back to the hills. All you need to worry about then is making sure you can make it up your hill in your 4*4.
Meh, there rich they can afford it….bout time those with money start taking a hit like everyone else is
Bidens bad policies and record high inflation washing away my savings account and many others too !
A fool builds his house on sand.
I fear that sea level rises are exponential in nature…. you probably want to move your house maybe 2 or 3 times the distance you planned on if you want to get a few more years of ocean view….
🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂 💩
i think ice of atlantic ocean is melting, why the ocean is rising…
Here come the science Illiterate crowd who claims climate change doesn't exist and you had the ice age and warm age which are examples of climate change they don't get climate change always exist but now humans are helping advance something that would take millions of years to happen.
So stop your winning
LOL. It will be 10 meters by 2050.
is it the sea level rising or it is the effect of currents and winds eroding the beach?
Oooooohhhhhhh noooooooooooo, all the rich people's propertyyyyyy, noooooo.
Anyway…
200IQ for the idiots choosing this lifestyle. Hopefully the ocean takes those homes 🙂
Just sink big pilings into the crust of the earth.
If you can build a drilling platform in the middle of the ocean you can keep a small house stable on the beach.
Hey Republicans believe it or lose your house.
Funny how the footage of homes being affected seem to all be during storms?
Climate fake
as a North Carolina resident, this is devastating. We take pride In Our beaches… we need to do better at combatting climate change!
Climate change has been happening since the dinosaurs bet over it
Just there huh, and other select places.
Don't build on sand.
Just don't built a beachfront home
Foundations of sand.
Ohhhh I see…… climate change is making people build homes at see level on stilts then being surprised it’s a problem
It's also responsible for the high hotel/motel prices there, the slight color change of the ocean from 567 years ago, and the occasional too salty fries at local Mickey D's.
Look like good day of metal detector lol
end stage patriarchy…….. stage 4
Stop with the climate change bs! Sick of it!
Just say the TRUTH….polar regions are melting….thankfully ge oen ginee ring is making it worse not better
The outer banks are basically giant sand bars. It’s perfectly natural for them to move around and they should have never been built on. Not a climate change denier or anything, but the outer banks is a case of people feeling entitled to live anywhere they want.
I think this is just natural erosion.
Then start moving way some people just wait to see the process. I’m like I just don’t see myself cleaning mud off my house after pumping water out.
Barrier Islands – they shift and move over time. Just because you built your house or condo there does not mean that the taxpayer should foot the bill (welfare for the rich) to save your home from the ocean. Oh and if you are worried about the turtles, when your home is gone they will still nest on the beach where your house used to be. Let put that 7 MILLON to use hiring teachers or building roads that won't wash away.
climate change is just a way of keeping poor poor and rich rich.
There is no increase in frequency or severity of storms happening! The main press reported earlier this year, that they were seeing a drought of hurricanes! We have been lied to, there is no "Climate Crisis" Walk outside, take a deep breath, and then take a kid fishing:)
Here's a stupid idea, quit building on the beach or near them.
Build back better.. ? 😳🌊😂
