If they pay off college loans i think they should have a universal basic income for people that dont have college degrees to offset wages

If you want to help students, end all student loans. That might seem counterintuitive, but student loans are the main reason why colleges can charge such high amounts for education. If the subsidy went away, the schools could only charge what people were willing to pay (out of pocket) and that would bring prices down immediately and substantially. Also, it would make trades more valuable to young people, which many of them should pursue rather than a higher education because the trade can provide a valuable skill that would enable them to enjoy a good living.

When I was going through high school, our teachers and administrators constantly pushed college onto us. There were even classes offered and sometimes required that were designed to prepare us for learning to get into college. Never once was there any sort of discussion of alternatives to college, the costs of college, or how to reign in those costs. It was just, you MUST GO TO COLLEGE! Parents obviously played a huge part in this as well. Where I grew up, it was important to keep up with the Jones’s, so it was the expectation to attend college. I can’t speak for all, but in my experience, college was the end goal, there were no alternatives. Additionally what defines a bad degree? Should everyone be an investment banker because it makes money? Is history and the arts and more specialized but undervalued fields be obsolete because they don’t make higher returns? We need to have a hard look at if it’s really the people at fault or if it’s the expectations and system that placed them there. Remember, they’re adults now but they were 18 year olds fresh out of high school when they were expected to make one of the biggest financial decisions in their lives. It’s time to reflect!

I was able to pay off 34,000k in loans in 18 months from working from home during pandemic. Budgeting needs to be learned, ordering out almost every meal doesn't help. Also, go 2 year route first and get same basics for less money. States like Kansas have Books/Tuition scholarships for individuals in the fine arts. Some times you don't even have to be great at either. I worked at a juco that the art teacher had use it or lose it scholarships. We would bring kids to him and they would attempt drawing a scene of a bowl of fruit. He typically gave books at least, but some he did both books and tuition. Lot of high schools have scholarships established by alums. We had many in my graduating class have 4-5 scholarships to apply to any school. There are options to keep cost down, but you have to know about them. If you don't, then the school counselor or someone is failing you. But… Google is your friend. Kids have way more resources today to find scholarships and/or apply for them.
I think universities should pay. They should be sued into oblivion. Universities are a racket.

Here's an idea, instead of making taxpayers responsible for student loans, let's implement laws that will put a cap on tuition, the course should be priced on the likelihood of getting a job in that field
