And one more reason for me to never move to California, even if I were offered the job of a lifetime.
Businesses using public highways as free storage areas? Isn't that Socialism? Make these business build their own facilities and not leech off the public – at the public's risk. This whole fiasco reminds me of the Beirut harbor disaster on a smaller scale – thankfully with fewer casualties.
That stuff must have been pretty well hidden! This is both an argument for big government (the business community is blinded by profits) and against big government (it's under-funded and often slow to act… fearing big business). And by the way – isn't downsizing IRS law enforcement the same as Defund the Police?

Bad companies with storage near highways, are a serious safety threat. We had one in the UK some years ago, that shut down a section of the M1 on the day of the FA cup final, which is our equivalent of the Super Bowl. The federal authorities of California need to be much more proactive. They were lucky that it happened at night. Terrible.
