As a Veteran who earned 36 months of actually free college, I must admit, the fact I didn't have an actual debt led me to squander it, and I went to college for 3 years and never finished my diploma…. because it was already paid for and failing that was not a negative money consequence.
Why are we not discussing the elephant in the room? That being – why have “institutes of higher learning” become so expensive? Where is all the money going?
If you hand the money out…..cross off that from future students and let them know that the gov't can't afford this gimmick. I think the Supreme Court will lecture him on powers, and it won't be a pretty 'talk'.
Cost will be approx. $6k per taxpayer.
If they are so stupid to do sixth grade math to calculate how much they'll own, they should not go to college.
I live in Atlanta. I have met people who actually said they have no intentions of repaying their loans. They went to HBCU's.
That young man is so well spoken and gives such well thought out answers. I thought we were doomed with the current generation, but he gives me some hope that perhaps not all is lost.
This administration is running the country to the ground!!!!!! Strong supported by democrats the blind blue party the blind leading the blind!!!!!
This you tube is a joke they block everything you say if it doesn’t fit there narrative
If you are paying for a PhD or masters you are getting scammed. The school or your job should be paying it for you (As someone with a PhD).
where was all this artificial outrage when we bailed out banks/mortgage companies and the billions we still send to subsidize the oil industry that the GQP loves to add to any bill?
How about debt forgiveness for trade school graduates, who decide to work with their hands in manual labor? Young adults are led to believe that a college degree is valuable, then are saddled with enormous debt when they can't find a job in their degree field. Medical debt forgiveness would benefit all the people, not just a few.
Paying off our car loans, would have made more sense
Isn't it odd that the individuals writing the legislation are the same individuals who benifit most, clearing their own debt.
For all of those who are against the student debt relief. Let me present a scenario based off my personal experience. I acquired all my student debt in the early 2000s. I came from a poor family. After I was 18, I was basically on my own. I decided to what every highschooler are the time is brainwashed to believe. If you want to get some whare in life you have to go to college. So, I went. I loved college. I love the flexibility and how I could study anything I wanted. I ended up going to 3 different colleges and getting 3 different degrees all in the same related technical field. Upon graduating I landed a good entry level job in my field, started a family, living the American dream. On the outside everything was fine. On the inside I was drowning in debt and didn't even know it. You see when you start the college process not much is explained about how you're going to finance it. You fill out the FAFSA. The school you're going to reports how much you need to the government. The government sends the school a package of money that consists of grants and loans to meets your financial needs. This is very simple but how it works in a nutshell. I know i could have indicated I didn't want loans on the FAFSA, but I had no other way to pay. I was already going to have to get a full-time job to support myself so had a choice. don't go to school or take the loans. During the process the whole "loan" thing is downplayed. federally backed, low interest, no payments until 6 months after graduation. ya da ya da ya da. meaning nothing to a fresh 18-year-old. Only thing I heard was don't worry about it. fast forward 3 degrees later. after the 6 months your servicer gets ahold of you to arrange payments. The first payment structure brought the payment up to a mind-numbing amount for a fresh grade. I was like "wow how am I going to do this?". But then they start to present you modified payment structures that lower the payment. Keep in mind none of this really makes sense at this point, I'm just trying to get the payment lowered. Happens I didn't go to college for finance. So, you lock in a lower payment, setup autopay, and done. Now I know it's going to take a long time, so it's forgotten for 20 years. You think one day, hey I'm probably closed to paying this off. So, you log in and, behold I still owe about 60 grand. Turns out the lowered payment plan barely dips into the principle. Too little too late. I up my payments but 5 kids later and a whole life lived and there not much left to contribute. I've accepted that I will be paying off my debt for most of my life. But now my oldest are going this same process. The system does need to be reformed as the current system is borderline a scam. I am for forgiveness, but I also would like to see reform. I think the Pell grant should be increased so it covers at least %60 of your degree. but I also like to see it restricted to certain degrees. We should only be paying out grant money to education programs that move the country forward… sorry rant over.
There is not a Diploma on the planet that can guaranty any wage after you graduate, YOU still need to go to work and do the JOB, if you take out a loan YOU need to pay it off yourself PERIOD, I dont see any one helping pay my Mortgage, my heat bills or car payments? I went to night school as i worked and I payed MY OWN WAY, This program is a SLAP in the face of every hard working American
You'd think education would be free in the supposed best country in the world but You'd be wrong .
High schools and educators have sold the idea that college is the only option and any thing else makes you less than.
Only three people or entities are responsible for student debt; (1) the person or family who signed the promissory note, (2) the schools who sold students that faulty project and (3) employers who hired the students that should be benefiting from that education. Tax payers should not be responsible.
We dont need education
He's going for a Phd? In what?? Computer Science? Pfft! Plumbing would be more helpful!
Biden banking on votes as payback for all that student debt forgiveness.
When a politician gives up a greater good for a lesser good, that's a sacrifice. But why in hell would anyone want to make a trade like that? America LOSES!
Haters
Stealing from the poor to transfer wealth to the people with the best prospects of being better off in the first place
