June 6, 1944: The D-Day invasion, when U.S. forces and Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy during World War II, was the largest amphibious assault in military history. NBC News’ Kerry Sanders explains how news of the invasion – a turning point in the war – and its heavy toll traveled around the world at the time. He speaks to survivors of that fateful day as they returned decades later to France. When asked about what we owe them now, their responses are full of humility: they’re no heroes, they say, but did a job that needed to be done. They want us to understand the cost of that day and remember those who died.

Many politicians today are not worthy to serve in the halls of our government that these WWII men and women sacrificed their lives defending back in the 40's. Their behavior today is an insult on American patriotism.

These men were and will always be the greatest generation because for whatever reason they took up arms for a cause which cannot be repaid. When I reflect on today’s society I am ashamed at times to be a part of of it.

These young men who came from places such as New Jersey, Ohio, and Maine charged into the unknown to liberate Europe from Nazi rule, We salute their efforts and courage

Looking at Western Civilization today, I think I speak for most White Americans when I say “I would rather be speaking German.”

The greatest generation indeed just so inspiring and amazing. Also there is not that many left they are dying by bigger numbers every passing year, and eventually sadly the day will come when nobody from that era is still alive. So it's important that we always remember there stories for future generations.
These men came home w/a spirit of public service, many became teachers, public officials, and like my home state's long serving Senator John Glenn served in political office. Love to them all. God speed & God bless
